"Where am I?" she said to herself, after awakening from a deep sleep that seemed to have lasted for days. She looked around, seeing that she was in some giant box, no exit, no light. All of a sudden, she blacks out again.

She awakens with a sharp pain to her head. Reaching back and feeling her head, she can feel the warm, dark blood trickling onto her neck.

A man was standing there in front of her, dressed in all black with a silver chain around his neck and a fancy watch on his left wrist. His face was shadowed, the room was so dark she could barely make him out.

"Evelyn, Evelyn, Evelyn...if only you had followed my orders," he told her in a deep, sly tone. "Who are you? Who's Evelyn? Where am I? What orders?" The girl felt intense confusion and anxiety creep up through her body. She doesn't remember who she is, her age, her family, anything.

"I am Kai. You are Evelyn. You are in an ancient prison cell underground, locked up tight. The orders that I gave you and you failed to obey. So now you must be punished," Kai yelled at her, thinking she was playing games with him, only making him more angry. "The orders I had to give you were directly from The Boss, and trust me, NO one dares to disobey The Boss's orders."

"I don't know what you're talking about! Who the hell are you?!" She screamed in fury. "I don't even know my name. There's blood pouring out of my head. Please, help me. Let me free. I beg of you," she pleaded.

"You don't know how badly I want to let it all go, but I can't. He'll kill me." Kai looked shaken all of a sudden, like he was being held at gunpoint, knowing this will be the last breath he will ever take. "You really don't remember me?" It could all be a part of her imagination, considering the giant head injury she has, but it sounded to her like he was trying to keep in his tears.

"I-I'm sorry, but I don't know who you are..." She was scared to admit this, for the fear that he'll get angry again. Kai hangs his head in his hands and cries for a while. 'Evelyn' stands and walks over to him, placing her hand on his right arm and asks, "Kai, are you okay? What's wrong? I know I don't really know you, but you can talk to me. I'm here. I have no place else to be anyways..."

"Evelyn..." Kai whispered her name like it was the last word he'd ever speak. "Never mind, I have to go. I've got another job from The Boss, but we ain't done here, I'll be back later."

"Kai, wait. I'm bleeding out, help me, please," she cried. Kai sighed and turned around, looking at her with sad eyes. "Let me grab my bag, I'll be back in a sec to fix you all up."

Ten minutes pass, then fifteen, then twenty, and then an hour. Where is he? Shouldn't he be back by now? Eveyln thought, filled with worry. Slowly her vision grew more blurry with each second that passed, until eventually everything went black.

Kai rushed into Evelyn's prison cell, faster than he'd ever ran before. He shook and shook, screaming Evelyn's name as tears streamed down his face like a hot current in a wide river. "Evelyn! C'mon girl, wake up. Please! C'mon breathe, open your eyes, please," Kai said through sobs.

Suddenly, Evelyn's eyes begin the flitter open. She wakes up with a startling gasp, blood covering her face and hands. "Where the hell have you been, Kai?!" She was furious. Evelyn reached up to touch his face, realizing that he was covered in cuts and bruises. "Oh my god, Kai, you're-what happened?"

"It's nothing, I promise. Let's fix that pretty head of yours," Kai remarked slyly. She said nothing in return, only sat still while Kai gently wiped the blood off of her pale skin. She didn't know why, but his touch felt so familiar, like she knew him in some other life, loved him even.

When Kai finished up her stitches, he took some pills and a bottle of water out of his bag, and gave them to Evelyn, to help with the pain he said.

"How do you know me?" she asked Kai, after pondering whether or not to ask for a while now. Kai responded, "Please don't ask me that." "Why can't I? I think I deserve to know." Evelyn wasn't happy with Kai's vague answers.

"It's in the past, and besides, you wouldn't even remember it..." Kai trailed off and turned the other way. He's acting really strange. What happened to him while he was gone? Evelyn thought to herself. "Are you sure you're okay? Here- you helped me, let me help you clean up, please."

She reached for the clean wet cloth, leaned in close to his face, and gently patted the cuts on his face. There were three long scratches across Kai's face, almost like he was attacked by a dangerous animal, a bear maybe. Whatever it was, it wasn't small, but she didn't dare ask him about it.

They hadn't talked for the rest of the night. Evelyn couldn't sleep, but she pretended so that she wouldn't be forced into conversing with Kai. She was still on edge about him, and still of unsure why. Eventually, he packed up his bag and left.
