Old Friend

" You're still sleeping?!" I quickly opened one eye to see who's speaking because I live alone, "What are you doing here Linda?" I asked harshly...She didn't answer instead she opened the curtains "breakfast will be ready in 10 minutes" then she exits my room. I kept wondering why my mom was here because we aren't in a good space right now, I rose up from my bed and went straight to take a quick shower, I wore a black dress and black block heels, did my hair and then I rushed down stairs, " Want coffee?" I didn't answer. "Mom you shouldn't have to came all this way I will send you money when I get paid" I said angrily, "I don't want your money" she said sitting next to me, it was the first time ever Mom coming to my house without asking for money, I was surprised. "What do you want then?" I glanced at her then back to my plate stuffing pancakes on my face. " I'm sick baby, the doctor said they found a tumor ...." Before she could even finish her statement ..."what?! is it cancerous?" My eyes were glassy, She cupped my cheeks " Yes, I'll start chemo on Saturday" it was as if she dropped a bomb on me, I couldn't believe it... I was so late but I couldn't leave her after what she just told me...I stood up without commenting on what she said and I took my phone and called in sick at work.

"That wasn't necessary dear" she said with teary eyes. "No mom, it is" I hugged her and offered her a cup of chamomile tea, I didn't know what to say next...all I could think of was that my mom is dying soon and I was angry at her for so long because I thought we had time
