April 4
"So, when's the next time you're gonna go over to Lee's house?" Jennifer asked, sitting herself down on the opposite side of the cafeteria table.
"I was thinking tonight, but I haven't checked with him yet."
Jennifer nodded, and leaned over the table, "How was it like to sit in the hottie's truck?"
I laughed aloud, and cocked an eyebrow, "It was like a marshmallow bagel."
Jennifer leaned back and smiled wildly.
"What?" My tone was a little more high pitch than usual.
Jennifer shook her head, "Nothing, nothing, it's just I think Mathew is getting jealous, because yesterday he was asking me about you."
I blushed and pinched the bridge of my nose, "Like, wh-
what about?"
"Oh, you know, why were you over at Lee's house two nights ago, do you still have feelings for him-"
"Wait, Mathew wanted to know if I still liked him?"
"Well, yeah, but he said that if you don't like him, he's just going to go out with Brittany."
My blushed face turned into a grimace, "That's shallow."
"Yep."
"I'll go talk to him sometime today." I sighed.
"Wait a moment, aren't you like, completely into Lee?"
"Well, yeah, he's incredibly attractive and all, it's just, I don't know a lot about him."
"Makes sense."
I decided I was going to tell Mathew how I feel after school, but I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to put it.

I met up with Mathew in the hallway, hoping that this is going to work out.
Mathew noticed me coming towards him, so he fixed up his short, black hair.
"Hey, what's up?" Mathew asked, puffing out his chest.
"Hi, uh, I just came to say," I paused for a moment, a gazed into his glistening, blue eyes, "I just wanted to tell you, that I do still have feelings for you, and I hope that we can try again."
"Oh, um, I do like you too, Beverly, but I'm going out with Brittany."
The words sank to my heart as I felt a strong jolt of pain.
"Okay." I croaked.
"I'm sorry."
"No, it's okay."
Mathew lent me a faint smile,
"I'll see you tomorrow, I guess."
"Sure."
He started down the hallway, without glancing back to me. His words made me feel broken. Brittany got to him before I did, I guess.

As Lee pulled into his driveway, he turned to me and asked, "Do we have to do math the entire time?"
"What else would we do?"
"I dunno, just talk, I guess."
"About?"
Lee didn't talk any further, he just hopped out of the car, starting for his house, so I trail behind him.
As we sat down in his room, I noticed something hanging over his bed, so I snatched it up, but I was very surprised when I saw a small, brown teddy bear in my hands.
I let out a giggle, "Um, what is this?"
"Nothing!" Lee blushed as he snatched the bear out of my hands.
"Well obviously it's something. It looks like Lee has a Teddy bear. 'Lee loves his boo, Lee loves his boo'." I teased.
Lee snatched the bear, and smiled, "Oh, shut it. It's from my Grandma."
I laughed and sat down on the bed, "So, you're an eighteen year old who sleeps with a teddy bear from his grandma?"
Lee tried not to smile, "Can we change the subject?"
"Fine," I let out a laugh, "got a girlfriend yet?"
Lee whipped back his head and laughed, "No- but-"
"But what?"
"Kay, promise not to tell anyone?" Lee pleaded, sticking out his pinky finger.
"Yeah, what?"
"Okay, don't get angry, but I think I have a crush on your best friend."
My eyes widened, "Jen?"
"Yeah."
I burst out laughing.
"What?" Lee asked.
"Jennifer? You have a crush on Jennifer?"
"Yeah, why is that so bad?"
"The thing is, you're not exactly the kind of guy she's attracted to."
"Why not?"
"She just- I dunno, it's just, she's kinda for the bulky guys, not perfect structures."
Lee smiled at me, "It's better to be perfect than bulky. Anyways, I told you who I like, now it's your turn to tell me who you like."
Crap. Now I have to tell him that I have a thing for his best friend? Crap.
"Um, Mathew."
Lee laughed, "So we have a crush on each other's friends?"
"Guess so- Hey, since we are friends with each other's crushes, we can get close with them, so why don't we make a deal?"
"Okay." Lee said, cocking an eyebrow.
"How about I help you get a date with Jen, and you'll help me get a date with Mathew. And if one of us doesn't get our date before the math test, we have to pay fifty dollars."
Lee stuck out his hand as I shook it, and he gave out a bright and proud smirk, "Bring it on!"
