008. the horrible, no good, very bad christmas eve

Start from the beginning

Hallie uses a piece of wreckage that looked sharp enough to hit him on the side of the face, successfully knocking him from Tony and then a second later Tony uses the suit to cut off the Mandarin's arm, letting it tumble to the side.

"Yeah, you take a minute." Tony says, still stuck in the same position as before. Hallie moves over to help him, but hears a sizzling sound and looks for the source to find the hears arm, still burning through the metal. Realizing what's about to happen, Hallie tries running over to Pepper instead, but is too late because a second later Pepper fell through the hole. Tony moves behind her to look down and without taking his eyes from Pepper tells Hallie, "Go, get out of here and find Rhodey." Hallie glanced between him and Pepper but a second later he is running off to help Pepper and she decides to listen to him for once.

Running in the opposite direction, and having no idea how to get off of whatever the hell they were on, she started running towards one of the moving walkways, jumping onto it and looking for someone who wasn't glowing. It seemed as though she was headed in the right direction, seeing the president in the Iron Patriot suit and decided it was best to head towards him, if not to get help then to actual help him.

As she approached where she was headed, she was knocked off course, and cried out as a blast from an Iron Man suit it her. For a second she thought it was a misfire, before realizing they were attacking her. The Extremis though caused the wound to heal, stitching itself back together as though fire was doing it. But that wasn't her only problem. The suit continued shooting at her, and somehow, as another shot was fired in her direction something in her head told her what to do. An impulse. A little voice. She used a bar on the walkway, feeling as though everything was in slow motion to jump, flipping over the blast and as she landed on her feet, shock flooded her system.

"Ok," the muttered under her breath. "Did not know I could do that."

The suit was taken care of as some other Extremis person lunged at the suit, causing the suit to fall. Hallie blinked in shock, still trying to comprehend the last ten seconds. Her attention was brought back to the present hearing another explosion and deciding it best she find a way out of there before she was the one exploding.

As she made it to where the President was, she noticed who she guessed was Rhodey already there and working on saving him. She breathed heavily, feeling as though she had run a marathon but knew it wasn't over as she noticed the other volunteers going to challenge him, three in total, two already on their way down after him. Hallie sped up before the person could join the others and lunged, jumping on their back and crossing their arms around their neck and tugging backwards, successfully pulling them away from the bar and rolling under their arm, putting herself between them and the drop behind her.

She breathed heavily, narrowed her eyes at the person as her eyes flowed a bright orange as the other person was, echoing their stance. The person recognized the fact that she wasn't on their side and decided to advance, swinging his arm back and trying to punch but once again she ducked under his arm, grabbing the back of his head and pressing his face into the bar.

"You know, I'm not much of a fighter." She said, pressing harder as his face heated up and continuing on, "But I'm willing to make an exception." Seeing the explosions happening below, without thinking she pushed him over the side, hearing his scream as he fell to the ground.

Hallie watched, before looking up after seeing his body disappear into the flames and saw on the other side that her ride was getting ready to leave, and she started sprinting knowing it was either get out with them or continue fighting here with no back up unless Stark showed up. Somehow she managed to make it to the other side, just as they were getting ready to leave and called out to them, making sure they knew she was there even over the loud explosions.

"Wait!" She called out, trying to get their attention while hoping she wasn't glowing at the same time and they wouldn't mistake her for another homicidal human bomb. As she got closer though, she noticed the Iron Patriot defensive, raising his hand in a defensive position but she held up her hands as she stopped in her tracks. "No! I'm not one of them. Ask Stark!" The Iron Patriot hesitated, and she could hear him say something but over the loud explosions echoing around them she couldn't know what exactly he was saying. He must've received confirmation or something because a second later he was dropping his arm, allowing her to get closer. She stepped forward cautiously, still expecting him to suddenly shoot at her but when no sign of that came she approached faster, desperate to get out of there.

The Iron Patriot attached an arm around her before saying, "The President is secure, Tony. I've got the kid and now I'm clearing the area." He said and she guessed Tony said something back as he directed his next statement towards the President of them. "Ready, sir?"

"What do you mean "ready"?" He asked but a second later Rhodey was taking off, the President screaming out in shock and Hallie, clutching tighter feeling her heart lurch as they were suddenly propelled feet into the air and her stomach did a somersault. She didn't know where they were going. As long as they were away from the nightmare that was left behind them.

( w / c ) : 1500

( a / n ) : another short chapter. the thing is I'm not good at fight scenes (which sucks because this is the avengers), so this was shorter than I intended wanting to make the fight be only one chapter.
