Jessica Hall stared at her reflection in the mirror, her hair pulled up in a messy bun, the dark circles under her eyes from being up all night. She tapped her fingers restlessly on her thigh waiting She didnt know what she was waiting for. She had excitedly waited for midnight to come, her long awaited eighteenth birthday. A crazy phenomenon happened when a person turned eighteen; a bond is created between two people, and when the two come together it's like youve met the one you were supposed to spend your entire life with. Sometimes She had seen many reports on the news and on social media to know it isnt all sunshine and rainbows. Depending on your bond and who you're bonded too, it could be the greatest thing that ever happened to you or the worst.

The most common bond is the bond of color which is what she had been waiting for, her mother and father were bonded through color, so she had already known the gists of it. The black band that circled your ring finger would intensify in color when your bond is near, her mother and fathers band turned purple. She had seen quite a few around her school with the black band too, and those without either havent reached eighteen yet, or their bond is unknown. An unknown bond is what she was afraid of most, so here she sat waiting for something to happen.

SISSY, YOU UP? She looked toward the closed door rolling her eyes, she could hear her sister Ashley opening and closing cabinets in the kitchen.

Yeah. She called back rubbing her face, she felt terrible. Started to think not going to school today would be best, her mother would probably go for it if she asked. Then she froze, her eyes widened at the display in front of her; on the left the slightly transparent words Go to School could be read, and on her right the same Dont go to School. She rubbed her eyes hard thinking she was hallucinating, but the words still remained. Umm.. ASHLEY!! Jessica yelled, unable to tear her eyes off the two choices.

WHAT?

Jessica stood to move away from the two choices but they only moved with her. COME HERE!

YOU COME HERE! The left side started to glow lightly before the whole thing disappeared completely. She stood there staring at empty air for what felt like forever before Ashley busted the door open. What? Why are you not dressed? Are you not going?

Jessica looked at her sister in a daze, Yea, I'm going. she replied.

Well hurry up!

Jessica mumbled a quick okay as she watched Ashley leave her room, she quickly started to dress as she went over everything in her head. So that was her bond? It had to be, what else could it have been. So her bond chooses whether or not she goes to school for her? Its strange she still feels like not going, yet she feels like she must go no matter what; like staying wasnt even an option anymore. After slipping into her shoes she ran a brush through her hair then tying it up in a messy bun, just in time as Ashley came out of her room ready to go as well. Ready?

Yea, cmon Sam is waiting outside already.

As soon as they both slid into Sams she immediately snatched up Jessicas left hand. She knew she was looking for the black band around her ring finger, when she didnt find it a frown flickered across her face. Well youre fucked.

Ashley busted out laughing. Well, thanks. Jessica half laughed, snatching her hand back from her. Not like I spent the whole night thinking the same thing.

Wonder what its gonna be. My mom can sometimes smell what her soulmate smells, but trying to find someone based on scent is basically impossible. Sam said starting the car, their school was just a couple blocks away and Jessica being two grades higher than them both, her school was farthest on campus. I would kill myself if I get the same bond as her honsetly, I would rather the that basic bitch with a black band around my finger then get that one.
