Once upon a time, these are usually the words you hear at the beginning of a fairy-tale, but what if I told you that fairy-tales aren't always happy and don't always have to be based on a perfect life with a bad backstory. I'm not Cinderella or Belle, I'm not Ariel or Jasmine, but I am a princess. A princess isn't a princess based on her beauty or her speech, her grace, or her expected mannerism. A princess is so much more, they see what others do not. They strive to fix everything that's broken and that's where this girl comes in. The girl with ruby red hair and sparkling eyes that resemble the sweetest caramel. Her smile could brighten a room just by passing with a smile on her face, her bravery, to everything she wasn't scared of dying yet she goes through so much at home, the abuse, the hatred, pure unjust, unfair treatment.
I longed to help her but I'm no good. I'm just the voice in her head telling her to keep trying, keep pushing, that she has a safe haven, to run, just get there. She's so beautiful but she can't see it, she's so smart, but she doesn't know it, she deserves so much better but she doesn't believe it, she's always happy but she doesn't feel it. She longs for love and little does she know she's about to have all of the love she could ever ask for, cause he's looking at the girl in the red jacket. That girl is the one of which I'm helping through life, stopping her from feeling the pain. She's a natural in her own body. She's friends with everyone, she's got an ever changing and extroverted personality that allows for her to be friends with anyone and everyone, sadly though she's a big introvert.
She sits in class with her music blasting through her earbuds writing her stories and poems just trying to be OK with herself, while he watches from his desk. Looking at her, observing her every detail, lost in her appearance and her aspirations to do the best at everything. He was in love but couldn't speak up, he was crazy, no good for her, psychotic, but he didn't hide it, not like our princess. Our princess isn't normal, she isn't pure like most, she's just as crazy as him but she hides it until the time is right. This princess is about to meet her prince and fall very deep in love. He loves her with all his being, every piece. The bell for the end of class rings and cuts away at his thoughts of her and her thoughts of freedom. He wants to talk to her, but not today. Life has its ways of making things that were destined to work. Her boyfriend is his best friend, and the biggest secret is her boyfriend is in love with him. She could feel the two of them fading, the love deteriorating, depleting, but she promised, so she stayed. She stayed until he started to make dumb decisions to make his life worse than it should and she couldn't bare to deal with the added stress. His mother hates her, his father despises her, his friends want to be with her, but she's still so alone. From there, he watched the one he saw as his queen in the halls, watched her every move, every detail. He needed to know she was alright, that was until one day he saw those guys, the ones that always treated her like shit, back at their antics, only this time she was alone. No friends to stick up for her no boyfriend to run them off, just alone. He watched as they slammed her books to the ground as they each pushed her a bit, the last one pushing her into the wall. He had enough of the games, his anger became too much for him and he knew he had to protect her. He sat next to her in class, seeing how it had occurred immediately before their class together, and he finally spoke to her. He told her he had been watching her in the halls, and that he wasn't gonna stand for the bullying and the pain she had to endure. He said he could see how broken she was, he slowly wiped away her tears, as she gave him a small smirk. "I'm fine, thank you though." Her voice was like silk, soft and smooth, almost comforting. He, though, insisted, "Please let me help you, I promise you won't regret it." he gave a reassuring smile and took her by the hand. "I will protect you." She looked at him surprised, "Why?" He sighed, "Because you're worth so much more than pain and I wanna show you that." She smiled as big as he had seen her smile in almost a month and he kissed her hand. Today is the day she meets her prince. He wanted to tell her, to him, she is his queen, but for now, he was her protector and she's still the girl in the red jacket.
