"Hey Dad!" I yelled as I descended the stairs. My family had managed to get the whole neighborhood together to throw a going away party for me. I had managed to work my ass off and get enough money to finally move to California. Kansas was nice and all, but when I was little I had always said I wanted to move to Cali.
"Hey kiddo, you look amazing. When did you get that dress though?" He said, pulling me into a side hug.
"Dad, this was the same dress I wore at graduation." I said with a laugh. He gave me a small look and I rolled my eyes.
"Well it looks great. Your mom is talking to some of the other moms, you should go say hi." My dad said and kissed my temple.
"Will do." I said with a big smile. I then walked over to my mom, conveniently for me she was talking to two of my old friends parents. I actually needed to talk to them about getting their kids numbers, mostly because I knew they had moved to Cali a while back.
I hadn't seen my friends since they had moved, but I did keep up with their social media. I also knew that they had kept an eye for me. Mostly because I would see them like a tweet or instagram post. When they had left we had actually had a fight, because of a stupid promise we had made.
In highschool I had made them promise me that we would all move to Cali together, but they had managed to get enough to go before me.
"Mom!" I shouted as I got closer.
"Hey baby, I was just talking to Mrs. Golbach and Mrs. Brock. They were telling me about their boys, you remember Sam and Colby right?" My mom said with a big smile.
"Of course, they were only my best friends in highschool." I said with a chuckle.
"Have you talked to the boys lately?" Mrs. Golbach asked.
"Uh, no. I got a new number after our little fall out, and never added their numbers back. Uh, I was actually hoping that I could get their numbers from you." I asked sheepishly. To be fair I hadn't been in contact with any of them since then.
"Of course, here let us see your phone so we can program it in for you." Mrs. Brock said. I handed over my phone and let them put their kids numbers in. After that I stayed to talk to everyone for a bit.
Everyone in the neighborhood had a lot of fun because of the music, food, and company of course. At the end of the night my parents made a speech and we even played a slideshow about my life. There were a ton of baby pictures, and a ton of embarrassing ones as well. My favorite part had to be an old video I had made on Youtube, which was still up.
"Hey everyone it's me Alex, and I am here to say hello world. Uh what else. Oh these are my best friends, Sam and Colby, they also have a youtube channel." I said rambling on the video. I looked around at my neighbors to see a lot of them laughing.
"Al, you need to tell them what we are doing." Sam cut in.
"Sam cut her some slack, she is learning." Colby said, nudging Sam. We all laughed and then another video started to play.
"Okay, so this video is a letter to myself. So Dear Alex, this is you from why back in highschool. Right now your biggest dream is to move to Cali, and become a Youtuber. If you are not going to calu or if you are not in Cali then stop watching." I said with a laugh. "Well hopefully if you did make it this far your dreams came true..."
More pictures and small videos from my family and my friends' family played and when the video was almost over people from all over the neighborhood had short clips of them saying congrats. Then my parents got up and did a speech.
When the whole night was done, me and my parents stayed up a little longer to just reminisce and say our final goodbyes. When they were nearly falling asleep we decided to go to bed. Once I went to my room I pulled out my phone and composed a group and messaged Sam and Colby.
'Hey Sam and Colby. It's Alex Miller. I know we haven't talked in a while, and I honestly am sorry. It was stupid to aruge with you guys. I miss you a lot. I am also moving to Cali my flight gets in around noon, uh I miss you guys and fuck I just wish I never said anything.'
I looked over the message and decided fuck it I would just have to send it. I waited a few minutes and then decided to get my pj's on, I was only going with the money I saved, and some clothes. I had to meet with the apartment complex tomorrow to sign my lease, and actually 'move in'. I also had sold my car a few days back, and as a gift my dad put enough money in my account to buy a car and anything else I would need. I would also have to make sure to get a car the first day. When I got back to my bed I picked up the phone and saw I had some messages.
'Wait you got the money!! You are going to be here tomorrow??' Sam sent.
'We are also sorry, you are right the argument was stupid, and when you got the new number we really missed you. We thought we lost our best friend.' Colby sent. I quickly called them into a facetime call. Colby answered first and I quickly teared up, I had never realized just how much I had missed him.
"It is you." He said in a bit of shock.
"Hey bubba." I whispered. I then heard the door open and saw Sam.
"Shit you are really calling us?" Sam said with a huge smile.
"Hey Sammy, Guys I am so sorry, I was being so stupid. I miss you guys so much." I rambled.
"Hey let's keep that in the past. What mattress now is that you are finally getting your ass out to California and we are never going to do that stupid fighting shit that bad ever again." Colby said and we both let out a small laugh.
"Colby is right, no more fight, we missed you here in Cali!" Sam said. I then heard a girl call out for Sam, his face turned red immediately.
"Uh, who was that?" I asked with a small laugh.
"Oh, uh, that was Kat, my girlfriend." He said looking up as the door sounded open.
"Where did you go?" A girl laughed out.
"Sorry Kat, Alex, who is an old friend from highschool was calling and Colby answered. We haven't talked to her since we left Kansas." He said and showed me to Kat. She was extremely beautiful and her hair was so blue.
"Hi I am the boy's friend." I said with a little smile.
"Oh, hi! I'm Kat." The girl said with a smile.
"Uh, hey not to make shit cut short, bit I really need to probably get to bed soon, I have a fairly early flight. Then I will be in Cali." I said with a huge grin.
"Hey do you need a ride from the airport, I don't have anything going on. I could drive you to your new house if you need one?" Colby offered.
"Actually that would be nice, I have to be at the leasing office at one to get my place, and I need to go to the car dealer after to get my new car." I said with a small smile.
"Deal Alex, but we are vlogging on your channel, letting the world know that we all are reunited." Colby said and we all laughed.
"I'll text you when I leave, and if there are any delays or whatever I will make sure you know." I said. We then said our goodbyes and I curled up in bed with the biggest smile on my face.
