Chapter 2

It was Monday morning, the first official day of their new home, and the "first" official day of school at Weston High for Elsie. This should be interesting.

She was in her car driving her brother to school, passing her new classmates in the parking lot. They were all staring at her as she drove by, and she could hear them talking about how she was new. Great. Patrick sensed this too.

"Listen, are you sure you're ok?" he asked.

"Yep. I'll be ok, really." But she wouldn't look him in the eye. He just nodded and got out of the car as she parked, following the rest of the freshman class inside like everybody else. How does he fit in so easily? I guess it just came naturally to him or something.

Before she got out of the car, she promised herself not to do anything stupid, and just act as normal as possible. She then slammed the door shut behind her, and followed the rest of the student body into the building. As she was walking, she took a look at her schedule that her parents had somehow got earlier. It looked like this:

Elsie Amber:

Period 1 - English (room A302)

Period 2 - Gym (Gym)

Period 3 - FREE PERIOD (study hall)

Period 4 - Bio (B240)

Period 5 - Italian (B240)

Period 6 - Lunch (Cafeteria)

Period 7 - Math (A252)

Period 8 - S.S (C290)

Period 9 - Art (B301)

~*~*~*~

It wasn't that bad of a schedule, because her first 3 periods were good. She always liked English, and being a vampire made me beast at gym. Free period was always a good time to listen to music, too. She also had Art last, which I guess was good way to end the day. Art, hopefully, would be her best class.

As she was walking down to her first period class, she could sense people starring at her, hear them whispering about the new girl, how she was...different. They don't even know.

She felt someone tap the back of her shoulder. It was a guy, blonde and blue eyed. He was well built, probably a football player, and a smile that would charm any girl.

"Hey new girl! How ya doin'? Need help "getting to your classes or anything?" he asked.

"Oh, um, no thank you. I think I got this." She started to turn around but he stopped in front of her again.

"Ya sure? 'Cause I know this school like the back of my hand."

"Yes, I'm sure. Now please move." She tried moving to the left, he blocked her. She tried the right. He blocked her again. She rolled her eyes and gave in. "Ok, what the hell do you want?"

"Just to walk you to class. I'm Jake, Jake Johnson." He put his hand out in greeting.

She looked at it for a second, the shook his hand. "I'm, um, Elsie. Elsie Amber."

He smiled. "Well it's very nice to meet you Elsie Amber!" He said with a little too much pep. Elsie looked at him squarely. OK, this kid was weird. Either he has nothing to do but impress girls, or this was like a new girl joke.

He ended up showing her where her 1st period English class was, and once she found it he left her to go to his own class. Supposedly they were having Math and Bio together. Fantastic.

Once she followed Jake's directions to where room A302 was, she slowly approached the door to the classroom. She took a deep breath and told herself she could do this. I mean, she's done this at least a million times. How hard could a million and one be?

She walked in just as the bell rang, and that's when it hit her. She didn't know how she couldn't have sensed this earlier. How could she have been so stupid? In this very classroom, she could smell the scent of her mortal enemy, the one other creature that could even come close to defeating her. Sitting in the back of the class were three werewolves. They were giving her the death stare, just as she was giving all of them one.

The first one was a guy. Obviously macho - looking, sandy blonde hair and light brown eyes. The second was a girl who appeared to be the first one's mate. She was rather pretty, had light brown hair and violet eyes. And the last one was, well, actually...kind of cute.

He was tall with shaggy brown hair and dark brown eyes. His face was perfect, and he looked at her with a kind expression...

Wait, what? A kind expression?! They were supposed to be enemies! Why didn't he look at her like he was about to kill her? It was then that I realized I was looking at him the same way. Damn it, Elsie, I know he's hot, but he's a werewolf!

"Um, excuse me, Miss Amber?" Elsie was snapped back into reality by her teachers voice.

       "Oh, um, yes?"

       "You're new here, right?"

       "Well, ya -"

"Well, in case you didn't know, you sit down in your seat when you enter class. You can sit in the empty seat in the back, please."

She nodded her head in embarrassment as the rest of the class laughed. The werewolves all smirked at her as she was forced to sit next to them. She seriously wanted to rip them apart right now.

For the rest of class, she really didn't pay much attention. She just felt the awkward feeling between her and the werewolves. She could sense them staring at her. If it wasn't for all these people, they would be high in battle by now.

Elsie did take one look back at the one who was staring at her with amazement.  He was still staring at her like that. Why the hell was he still staring at her like that? I mean, I guess I didn't really mind. Those eyes, those dark brown eyes. Elsie could stare into them all day.

Elsie whipped her head back to the board. What was she doing? It's like she was completely forgetting the fact that he was a werewolf, and she was a vampire. She didn't even know him for god's sake! But it was weird, how she had this gut feeling towards him. Nothing like she ever felt before. She wanted to end his life, but something light and fluttery was stopping her...

And what after felt like forever, the bell finally rang for 2nd period, and she ran out of there as fast as she could.
