Three a.m.
Brooklyn Miller can't seem to get at least ten minutes of sleep. The most she can sleep in a night is three to four hours. But that's on a good night.
However, tonight she is having more trouble than most nights. Her thoughts are crowding her mind, not allowing her brain to rest. She just can't stop thinking about it.
Why? Why must God take everything good away from her? Is it something she did? Did she upset the big man and make him decide to punish her? What did she do to deserve this punishment?
Mom. Julia.
The poor girl never really had the best life. It all started when her dad just picked up and left in the middle of the night when she was six. No note. No warning.
Her dad left with all the money too. Leaving Brooklyn, Julia, and her mom with only a few thousand dollars and a nice house which could not be afforded to live in anymore by the Miller's. So they moved out.
To their luck, a man was selling his apartment for a good deal, one that the girls could not miss out on. They ended up moving from upstate New York to uptown New York City.
Her mom started working as a waitress in a fancy restaurant just two blocks away. After a while, she was promoted to being the head pastry chef due to her amazing skills in baking culinary arts.
The pay wasn't too bad either, it kept them alive and well.
Alive. No. Not anymore.
April 2017, 'Alive' would no longer be a word in her mom and Julia's vocabulary anymore. 'Alive' would then end up being the complete opposite of how Brooklyn felt every day since the incident.
Her insomnia is only getting worse. She feels that tonight may be the peak of how bad it has ever been. She feels almost as if her body is slowly starting to deteriorate.
Even though she has never been in a good mental state, Brooklyn knows she has to go see a doctor about this as a soon as possible.
The doctor. That requires money.
Money.
Thankfully before her mom and sister's passing, she had already taken up a job. She sells her own handmade art, clothing, and crafts through a website. Her art and sewing skills have caught the attention of many people on the internet who are just looking for something useless to spend their money on.
However, people's wasted money becomes her profit. Her work has been doing so well that she was even able to raise the prices up a lot and make enough money so she can stay in the apartment.
With her saved up money, Brooklyn can go visit the doctor. She needs this more than anything. As much as she wants to see her mom and Julia again, she knows deep down that they would want her to live out her life and be healthy. So that's what she'll do, finally go take care of herself.
When Brooklyn looks at her nightstand clock again, it reads almost five a.m. Another two hours of thoughts just slipped right past her.
With that, the insomniac forces herself to sleep for a good three and a half hours.
Eleven a.m.
