The First Day

   Madelines mom called her down for dinner, because tomorrow was the first day of school they ate a little earlier that usual. "OK COMING!" Madeline yelled from her room. Madeline hurried down the stairs to eat dinner with her mom and older brother, her brother is 17 only a year older than her. "Ok I'm here." Madeline said sitting down to eat. "Did you all wash your hands?" Her mom asked. "Fine!" her brother Nathan said annoyed. They both got up and went to the bathroom sink, and washed their hands. They hurried back to the table to eat. But before they could even get a bite in yet their mom said, "Wait!". "Ok what now, I'm hungry!!" Madeline said getting a little annoyed. "Ya what?!" Nathen joined in with her. "We have to pray and stop being so rude it's your first day tomorrow. I better not get a call saying you guys use that attitude at school!!" Everyone crosses their hands and prays in their head, once they are done they sit up. Everyone was done praying, so Nathan and Madeline start to dig into their food. "So are you guys exited for he first day of school?" Their mother said starting a conversation. "Ya for the first 3 days then it's back to wishing to be dead." Nathen said. "Oh cmon don't be like that it'll be fun! You'll see your friend Jason!" Their mom said trying to convince him it's going to be fun. "Ya sure whatever you say!" Madeline says laughing. After eating a bit more Madeline asked, "So when is dad coming home..?". "Later.." her mom said quietly. "What is he even doing?!?" Madeline asked her mom. "You know he's traveling the word!" Her mother said trying to lighten the mood. "But it's been 3 months...." Madeline told her mom. "Ok I'm done eating.." Nathen said quietly and started to rush out of the room. "But sweetie you didn't even eat all of y-" their mom said until she realized that he couldn't hear her anymore. "May I be excused too..." Madeline said sadly. "Sure Maddie.." her mom said trying to sound enthusiastic. She rushes out of the room quickly, once she is gone her mother lets out a sigh. She thinks to herself.."Hurry home sweetie...Me and the kids need you..." The next day is the first day of school so their mother wakes them both up. "What's for breakfast mom?" Nathen says hungry, because he barely ate any of his dinner last night. "It's eggs and toast!" She says setting two plates on the table. "Cool my favorite!" Nathen says quickly sitting down. "Yours and Maddie's both!" She says exited. After that Maddie rushes into the kitchen thinking she was late. "AM I LATE?!?" Maddie says sitting down quickly and starts to shove eggs into her mouth. "No weirdo your not late." Nathen says hitting her on the shoulder lightly. "Oh shut up you walrus!" She says back to him. "Stop the arguing!" Their mother says loudly. "Fine just know that HE started it." Maddie says continuing to eat her breakfast. "YOU STARTED IT!" Nathen screams back. "ENOUGH!" Their mom screams at them. They both turn their heads towards their plates and start to eat. "Just please don't fight...It's the first day.." Their mom says sighing. "Sorry mom." They both say feeling guilty. After that they both start getting their backpacks on. "Hey mom can you drive me?" Nathen says hoping for a yes. "Sure hunny." His mom says to him. "What about you Madeline?" She says facing her. "No thanks I'd rather walk." She says back. Madeline starts walking out the door. "Love you sweetie!" Her mom shouts from the kitchen. "Love you too mom!" She shouts back "love you weirdo." Her brother told her from the couch. "Love you too idiot. She says walking out the door.
