As the Search and Rescue team helped my younger sister up the rope to the helicopter, I took a last look at the vicious river and the broken houses that used to be my beloved town. In the distance, a dark blue 4WD was pushed violently along the flood water, and then pulled under.

"Your turn!" A rescue worker shouted at me over the roar of the water.

I climbed up off our grey roof, the only thing left of our house protruding from the murky brown water. After what felt like forever, we reached the helicopter, and I sat down next to Monica. Poor girl. She's only six! She shouldn't have to go through this. As she rested her head on my lap and closed her eyes, Mum climbed in, and a few minutes later, so did Dad. We leaned in closer together in a wordless hug. I felt a single tear slide down my face.

AUTHORS NOTE: HEY! Sorry this chapter is so small, but the next ones will be bigger. If you were confused or anything, I'm not stuck in the Queensland floods. I actually live in Victoria. Im sorry if me using Queenslands terrifying situation as inspiration offends anyone. COMMENT!
