I opened my eyes my head filled with a sharp pain, my body slightly freezing from the cold air that started to pour in along with the snow that started to fall. I looked up starring at the foggy sky as the snow fell I'm tired of crying.... Why am I crying? I can't even remember. I looked down at the newly buried ground the snow already starting to cover it.... "Why am I here" I spoke to myself hoping it would come back to me but, my luck it didn't. I put down an envelope I had, I wanted to read it to remember why I was here but, something stopped me. I dug into my backpack that was on the ground pulling out a warmer jacket it was a black jacket that had a matching black beanie I put both on before standing up looking at the buried ground one last time before walking away.
I wiped my face trying to remember what happened today how did I even get to that forest, What was buried in the ground? Why can't I remember what happened these couple of days. One foot after the other as I continued to walk unsure where I was even going anywhere but-. I suddenly came to a stop the fog clearing just a bit but, not fully the snow finally coming to a halt as I can see the town I thought I walked away from "... w-what... I-i swear I just... t-this isn't right" my mind was blank staring at the town I though I left "...I-i must've got turned around..." the cold air hit a bit harder stopping me from walking away from this town. I slowly started walking back into the town my stomach twisted and turned as I entered I wanna leave but, this freezing air and fog is stopping me. I continued walking down the street thinking to myself I must be the only idiot out in this kind of weather, this town that was so alive being forced to inside by a simple storm but, something was off I couldn't quite place my finger on it but, it felt more quiet , it was unnatural.
As I made my way down the main road I came to a stop seeing the road blocked by a construction gate that "my luck" I whispered to myself as I started to looked around trying to find a little bit of shelter till the storm passed and then I saw it a small store that had a open sign something that can protect me from the cold.
I quickly made my way to it opening the door before quickly closing it behind me warm air quickly hitting my face already doing miracles. I looked around the store and instantly noticed something wasnt right. The light was flickering and clothes were scattered everywhere the stores decor was broken not one person in sight I felt my stomach twist feeling something was wrong "H-hello?" I called out I heard some scuffling coming from the back room "I-I'm sorry if the place is closed I'm just trying to get out of the col-" before I could finish my sentence a middle aged man walked out the room quite handsome for his age I wanna say maybe in his 40s could be younger than that not only that but he had some confidence I could tell by the way he entered the room he had some round glasses that complimented his blue eyes, his skin decently tanned which was a sign he's not from around these parts, his hair was brown, short and slick back and he had a nice scruffy beard, he's was quite built and could tell he does some heavy lifting he was taller than me by a long shot I had to tilt my head up just to look at him he wore a green button up shirt that were tucked into his pants with some work boots he's quite a man I will say. "No worries..." his voice thick and deep "just trying to get out of the cold?" He asked looking down at me, I gave him a quick nod and he looked at me almost disappointed "well that jacket isn't gonna cut for you your much too thin the cold will kill you" he states I look at my arms and I am quite skinny I didn't really think I'd be here long "I'm just visiting.... It's a lot colder than I remember it being when I was younger..." I messed with my fingered a bit nervous but, he looked a bit surprised at my words "ah... you grew up around here that's quite a surprise" I watched him start cleaning up "excuse the mess I'm fixing up this shop for a friend of mine" he adjusted his glasses before looking back at me "...what brings you back in town?" He finally asked.
I got a stool and brought it close to the counter to sit down and that question finally made me remember why I came back "...To see my mom... I haven't talked to her in awhile..." he looked a bit disappointed in me as I said that which made me already feel awful "that poor lady probably misses you" his voice deeper like almost angry but, not really "...I miss her more..." I look down at my hands as he lets out a almost bitter chuckle "No one misses anyone more than their own mother" he said as I turned around to look outside the cold storm finally calming but, the fog not lifting. I hear him let out a sigh "you're not gonna be able to get into town with that construction going on... you can go through the back there's a small ally you can go through to get there" he said almost guilty like "really? Thank you" I said and he shrugged it off "it's nothing really no go see her she probably broken hearted you haven't" I feel him pat me on the back as I get up. As I'm about to walk out I feel him grab my hoodie "boy don't think your going out in that tiny sweater" he a bit angry as he sticks a large brown jacket in my arms "take mine" he huffs "I-i can't-" I holds his hand up "like hell you won't your taking it... it fine honestly I have a spare in my truck" he pats my shoulder as I let out a deep sigh "thank you" I say slipping on the jacket he smiles before shutting the door.
