"bored already?" he asks lazily, holding the cig lightly to his lips.

"yes and i have better things i could be doing." i say flatly, groaning as i nudge the dying grass beneath me with my foot.

"smoke with me for two minutes and i'll leave you alone." miles says with a crooked smile. because of his resemblance to mike, i can't help but imagine that it's mike speaking to me, instead of this stranger. the idea makes warmth flood through my body and a small smile appear on my lips.

just pretend he's mike. then you can leave and never see him again.

"two minutes." i say with a sigh. hesitantly walking up to miles. he grins mischievously and holds the cigarette out to me, my fingers slowly stretching out to grasp it.

i rotate it slowly in my fingers and i swallow as i hold it hesitantly to my lips, inhaling lightly. not a moment after i breathe in the smoke, i tear the cigarette away from my lips, pressing a hand to my mouth as a fit of coughing overwhelms me, a burning sensation scratching through my insides.

miles watches me struggle to regain my composure with a lazy smile, as if he knew i wouldn't like it. i narrow my eyes at him as i cough once more, clearing my throat, and i toss the cig back to him.

"that's vile." i spit out, trying to forget the feeling of smoking it.

"it's nice." miles replies with a shrug. "you just aren't used to it."

"why did you even want me to come here and smoke that?" i ask, crossing my arms as i raise my eyebrows at him. "we don't even know each other."

"want to know the truth?" miles says, looking away from me.

i nod in reply and he scoffs.

"you're hot. that's the only reason. the only fuckable girl in this pigsty." miles says carelessly, his words having a bitter aftertaste.

i harden my jaw, anger rising in me. "fuck you, i'm leaving." i turn around, my hand firmly clasping my backpack, as i walk away from the asshole i just met.

i hear miles' laugh from behind me.
