I remember when this careful event changed my future.

I was halfway there. The walk to school isnt that long, but it still makes my legs ache. In the spring, this walk would be nice. But right now it isnt. The sun is beating down on me, my backpack full of books and pencils, and my empty stomach. I always eat at school, usually a granola bar or an apple. I try to stop thinking about the bad stuff. Beep. My phone beeps. I look at it. It's a text from Jo. I read it.

Jo: Are you almost at school?
Me: Almost. Why?
Jo: The tryouts for the play are today!
Me: Oh shoot, I forgot :0
Jo: We still have time. Hurry :)

I start running faster. Me and Jo have been practicing for this play. It was almost june, so the drama club made a play featuring LGBTQ characters for us to perform in pride month before school ends. Me and Jo are both part of the LGBTQ community. I am a lesbian and Jo is pan. And we are very excited about this play.

When I arrived at school Jo was waiting for me. " Come already, we are gonna be late!" We both ran to the auditorium for tryouts. As we entered, Ms. K. Looked at us. We were late. Jo laughed awkwardly. "Jo, Alex," she said looking at us, " I hope you won't be late for practices. " and then me and Jo took out seats. The play was about 2 girls in love. They had a bunch of friends, like gay guys or trans or non binary people. We were auctioning for these 2 Bisexual students who are friends with the main characters. Soon the teacher called us and we recited our lines.

Me and Jo excitedly ran to the board outside the auditorium to see if we got in. We looked at the roles we auditioned for. Our names weren't there. We scanned the rest of the board. There it was, our names, at the top. We got the main characters. Jo seemed happy, but I wasn't sure weather to be happy or not. We got the best roles, but we were best friends, not lovers. I was nervous. But I didn't want her to think I didn't want to do this with her. So I made myself be okay with it.
