HAWKINS, INDIANA. A small town where Coraline Jones grew up and had the rest of her childhood to be spent there and grew more, with the small population living in the said town in which every citizen know one another and by the way their tone greets the later whenever they meet along the line of their work or just casually walking around to take a good view of the town. It was a Saturday morning of the week, music coming from downstairs caught her attention as she combs her hair while looking at the mirror. Her eyes diverted to the small piece of paper sticking at the side of the mirror with a note written on it— band meeting at 4 P.M.! Coraline hurriedly made it downstairs hearing her mother telling her to stop running at the stairs from the kitchen, the scent of waffles made her lips curve up a smile.

“What’s with the hurry Coraline? You’re getting another injury again, remember you had just recovered from your sprain,” her father Charlie spoke as he sat down at the chair, her mother showing up holding a pan and slowly putting down the waffle on the plates. “Your father’s right Coraline, you just got an injury.”

“I’m not running around,” Coraline whines, sitting next to her father.

“But it sounded like you did just now,” Charlie buts in, adjusting his glasses before flipping the newspaper. “Going back to my question, what’s with the hurry Coraline?”

“Just the usual errands— just about Bowie’s band,” Coraline answered, taking a big bite of the waffle.

“Speaking of Bowie, one of her cousins came here the other day asking about his notes,” Mel said, later joining her husband and daughter in the dining room.

Coraline sighs in disbelief as if she forgot to do— well she did forget to bring back Deacon Malden’s notes from the History class and well, this is the second time she forgot to give it back to him. “I’ll stop by at the Malden’s residence,” she said, sounding too embarrassed about the matter, hearing a soft chuckle from her father. The Malden family isn’t new to every talk that they have or rather because they are close with the said family since they had moved in to Hawkins and adding up that Coraline and Bowie Malden knew each other since they were kids.
