When The Wind Blows Silent

Chapter 1

Me and mama we're packing our bags upstairs while Micheal was playing in front of the TV downstairs. We were going to visit Auntie Kandra. " Let's go everyone, we are going to be late for the plane, we need to get to the airport." Mama said in a firm voice. I hurried down the hall with my luggage in my hands, panting as I set them down on the floor. Daddy grabbed them as he hauled them out to the car, after words he came inside and began to wave us to come on. My brother and I stepped out the door hurrying to get inside the car, after we got in I quickly strapped myself in and buckled my brother. After a few hours of driving we finally got to the airport parking lot, we got out and pulled our bags with us, we all huddled into the airport and checked in and sat down. I was very annoyed, Micheal had fallen asleep on my shoulder and was wrapped around my arm with his legs on top of mine. I huffed my breath and my mother peeked over my dad and gave me "the look". I looked over and nodded as I curled up with him. The next thing I know is that i'm on a plane with my brother still curled up to me, my mother beside me, and my father reading a magazine half asleep. After a few hours we managed to finally get to our stop, I got off to see Aunt Kandra. I almost basically dropped my brother and ran to her with a smile on my face as big as the sun, she smiled at me as she squeezed me tight. After I struggled to breathe she let go and she hugged my brother next. We went back to her house and all I remember was getting to her house and going to bed. I woke up the next morning with my bags next to me and the sun shining on my face through the blinds. My mother came in yelling at me as she did as always, I looked confused as my Aunt walked in to "save the day" as Micheal calls it. I got out of bed, still dressed in my blue jeans and Nike T-shirt. I walked over to my bag, I searched for my sweats and a clean T-shirt. I found them and changed, after I walked downstairs and greeted my aunt and uncle. I saw pancakes waiting in my usual seat. I sat down and pucker my lips with my tongue. I bite into the tasty pancakes and it fills my head with delight, all worry had left me. I had felt the freedom till I heard my brother scream upstairs, it cut me from my focus, and I sighed thinking I was free from him for the day. I don't know why I ever even think that and why I ever thought my mom will save me from him, my dad went upstairs to get him out of his bed. He came back down with him in his hands, his face red from crying Micheal waved his hand frantically. I rolled my eyes and waved back at him, my mother signaled me to get him breakfast. I nodded and walked over to the cabinet. I picked up his food sitting on the counter and brought it over to the table. I set it down in front of mother, she picked it up, put it in a bowl and handed it over the high chair tray and he devoured it quickly. Afterwards I went to my room and thumped on the mattress, I sighed and thought deeply as I missed home, and I missed Ella, Amelia, Zelda, and Millie. I'm sure they missed me too. I wanted to ask Mama to call them but I didn't want to hear her yell at me right now, so I stayed put. I didn't even realize I fell asleep, I woke up and felt confused, I looked over and checked the alarm clock on the nightstand, "3.30" I said in a cracked and tired voice, I sat up from the bed, looking over seeing the door was open. I was confused and walked over to the door, it creaked and all I could see was the darkness of the empty dark wooden call to the stairs. I began to leave the room and tip-toe down the stairs, soon after I reached the bottom I saw the fireplace lit and the table lamp on, I looked over the railing to see Mama sewing my shirt for church tomorrow. I looked over to see Daddy, asleep over on the couch, I had to duck down, Mama had glanced over at the stairs, I quickly and quietly ran up the stairs and climbed back into bed, she came into my room and glanced at me, she walked over and kissed my forehead.
