Hi, my name is (l/n) (f/n)! I'm in the photography club at Shiratorizawa, I was taking photos of our game when-
"HEY! Heads up in the crowd it's gonna-"
Too late so let me ask you a question, how would you react if you got squared in the face by a volleyball spiked by a teenage boy with roughly the strength of a professional athlete? Well, congratulations, you don't need to say your answer because well in this slow-mo situation you didn't get time to react. Instead, when you looked up from your camera to the source of the shouting you were met with a nice solid-
SMACK!
The volleyball ricocheted off of your face back out to the court only to be caught by one of the referees. You felt the blood be pushed out and then rush back to the point of contact, your face was red from the direct hit. Annoyance filled your expression as you looked onto the court. To explain what happened, well there was only really one cause, Ushijima Wakatoshi. He had hit his spike so hard it bounced off the opposing side of the court straight into your face.
You received a small pat on your shoulder from your friend and classmate Jo Sueko, but she preferred to go by Jo-kun, claiming it was cooler than Jo-chan or Jo-san. "(l/n)-san, your nose is bleeding onto your camera."
"SHIT!" You exclaimed as you took the handkerchief she offered you and rushed to the bathroom. With your nose stuffed with toilet paper, you thought you looked a bit like some kind of anime pervert. Nonetheless, the reason you had looked down to your camera was more than worth it. You turned the device over again and looked at the display screen, the moment was still so crisp...A perfect shot of Ushijima straight up in the air ready to strike.
It was almost like a miracle that someone of his height seemed to just fly across the court to easily, his long arms acting as wings arched back in preparation for his ascent to the peak of the net. A bone-chilling sight that leaves people in awe, so you rationalized that the hit to the face was a worthy sacrifice.
"(l/n)-saaaaannn," Jo-kun poked her head into the bathroom, "the game just got wrapped up, you wanna stop for some snacks on the way back home?" The girl gave you a blank stare before a small snort came out of her, "You know (l/n)-san...You look like a pervert if you look down at your camera like that with bloody tissue in your nose."
"Shut up Jo-kun, you know what since you're so rude to me how about you pay this time huh?" You punched the girl in the arm gently flashing her a big grin as the two of you made your way out of the gym and down to the convenience store nearby.
"Oh, right you know that guy who hit the ball that ricocheted right?" Jo-kun spoke paying for the snacks the two of you bought, "He didn't even seem slightly concerned about you, how rude is that?" The girl huffed as she put the change into her Uta no Prince-Sama coin purse.
"I suppose that could be a little rude..." You trailed off as you two went outside sitting in the late afternoon sun, "Oh, Jo-kun don't forget to do your math homework. Just because we didn't do our usual studying today because of club activities doesn't mean-"
"Doesn't mean I can slack off I know already." She finished your sentence for you and devoured her meat bun happily, jumping up with her bag. "Later, (l/n)-san! I gotta get going because it's my night to cook, see you Monday!"
"See you!" You replied as she ran off. As you stood up you patted the dirt off your skirt and began the walk to your house.
It was quieter than you expected, but you remembered your parents went out for a sort of anniversary trip that would last a couple of months. Leaving you with an empty house. It wasn't the worst though, most of the time Jo-kun would be over and you'd study and then watch anime, making fun of each other as you tried your hand at dancing the intros. But, right now it was just an empty house...Just you and the plants
Monday, 7:30 AM
Warm,
was the only thing you could feel, drifting softly within your state of sleep. It was nice, but the looming feeling of responsibilities shook you from your pleasant dream as the alarm screamed. Sluggishly, you marched to the bathroom to freshen up, it was certainly obvious you had stayed up late based on the dark bags beneath your eyes. Probably up all night reading or fooling around online. Putting on your uniform you did a quick twirl in your mirror. You had to admit, the summer uniform was a lot better considering you didn't need to wear the blazer and sweater vest (though I think the normal uniform is cute too).
You took your time eating breakfast and gathering your school supplies before starting your trip to school, halfway there Jo-kun gave you a hefty slap on the back smug expression on her face. "Oiiiii, did you get any good pictures of Shirabu-san?" She spoke leaning over your nudging you.
"Yes, and I can show you them during lunch if you behave yourself."
you retorted and the girl whined, the trip to school was filled with laughter and slight jabs in each other's sides, and when you made it to class Jo-kun went and sat at her usual spot at the front of the class and you in the middle. Everything was perfectly normal until a figure loomed over you, Ushijima Wakatoshi. You knew he was in your class but you didn't really acknowledge him all too much, he was quiet and he only really hung out with the volleyball members.
"Can I help you Ushijima-san?"
You spoke looking up at him and he nodded, "I wanted to apologize for what happened at the game."

A/N
WAAAAAAAAAHHHH, I'm sorry if this chapter was a little boring. I'm still working out how to properly portray Ushijima in this book. I'm gonna take the time to answer some questions before they are asked too. Number one, yes this is going to be a slow-burn romance spanning from the start Ushijima's 3rd year up until I decide I want to end it (note: Japanese school years start in April). Two, yes I will try to follow the manga as best I can but don't be mad if I mess up some details. Three, yes Jo-kun is important to the story but she is mainly a comedic character who I put a little too much of myself in.
**MOST IMPORTANTLY I WILL NEVER WRITE LEMONS OR SMUT**
Also! I was thinking about bringing a sort of choice element into the story, sort of like the readers get to interact with a choice you make at the end of some of the chapters (but only after I know people will interact).
Thank you for reading, I hope you stick around!
