Chapter 1
“BEEP BEEP BEEP!” I jump, frightened out of my dream. “AHHH!” I fall off my bed. “OOF!” I rub my head. “Stupid alarm clock!” I stand up and shake my head, my ears flopping. I yawn and walk over to the bathroom. I take a shower, brush my teeth, and brush my long hair. I get dressed in a black long sleeve shirt and a pair of black leggings. “Breakfast then time for a run and some training!” I checked the time before I went downstairs, it was 4:30 am. As soon as I got downstairs I went into the kitchen and made some pancakes, making sure I left enough for my brother and sister. As I make the pancakes I think about the dream that I had. “Who was that family… that dream felt so familiar. Not like my other dreams at all…” I grab 2 pancakes off the plate, quickly eat them, and write a note that I place next to the rest of the pancakes. <Out on a run and some training. Be back soon! Riv is the nickname they gave me. My real name is Rivrix, which is pretty short so there really was no reason for a nickname, but I let them call me it anyways. We all are really close, mostly because we are the only ones we have. We don’t know who our parents are, Noah has taken care of us ever since he was 10, we were 7, and we don’t have any friends yet. Our brother is a 2nd year in UA and my sister and I are going to be taking the entrance exam soon. So, I need to train as much as I can! I've never been the strongest of my siblings, but I have been training REALLY hard! So, I know I can make it! I slip on my tennis shoes and run out the door. I run all around the city and to a gym. I say hello to the worker there, I know everyone there as I go here most mornings. I slip off my shoes and put them into one of the slots at the front of the gym. I go and start my training. As I’m training I notice someone watching me. I set down the weights I was using and go to a different area.
After about 3 hours I go back home. I see a note on the counter next to the pancakes, it reads <Thank you for the pancakes! We are out getting groceries and will be back soon! P.S. we got you a gift for working so hard! Love ya~ Noah and Ky> I smile at the note and look next to it and see a necklace with a black orb on it. The black substance inside the orb swirls. Interesting… I looked inside the box and under the cotton it was on top of. It had a note with only one word… “Kade? Why would someone leave this here?” The substance in the necklace swirls faster and faster until POOF! A black smoke-like cat with piercing yellow eyes appears on my counter. “Someone called me? Oh, you must be my new owner.” The cat stretches and flicks its tail. Black smoke goes off of it.
“Well, I thought that boy would take me as its own. It seems I was wrong.” I look extremely confused as the cat sits down and looks at me. “‘Kade’ is my name. The ‘necklace’ you got is my holding.” A light bulb lights up in my head. “Wait wait wait, hold on. Let me get this straight. You are a shadow cat?” He nods his head, “This so-called ‘necklace’ I got holds you?” He nods his head once again. “Did- did my brother and sister know about this?” He shakes his head no, “They had no idea, they just thought it was a normal necklace. You were the only one to look farther into the box to find my name.” I think for a second before speaking, “Okay, so… can anyone else see you or is it just me?” He licks his paw, “Only you, unless I allow someone else to see me. I shall always be by you, to protect you from rouge creatures. Now that you have seen me you will be able to see every other creature who hides themself.” I nod slowly, “that makes sense… I have one question. Can I tame the rouge creatures, and if I can, will I get another holding to put on the necklace?” He nods and smiles his sharp teeth showing, “You can. You are a very smart one. I think this will work out nicely.” I think for a few more moments, “So, uh I’m going to go get ready and I’ll be back down soon?” He nods and I make my way upstairs into my bedroom.
When I get there I shut the door and go to my bathroom. I take off the old bandages that are around my hands and on my side. I sigh, “I shouldn’t have trained so hard last week.” I put on new bandages and a black long sleeve shirt with fingerless gloves. I put on a pair of ripped black denim jeans. I put my hair up in a pony tail and walk back downstairs. The holder, as Kade called it, now had swirling a black substance back in it again. “He must have gone back in then.” I put the necklace on and went into the living room. I was bored and decided to play guitar for a bit. By the time I was done it was around 10:00 am. “Where are they?” I felt my phone buzz and picked it up.
