"Faggot."

It came from her mouth so briskly, I barely had time to prepare myself for what Himari, debatably the most influential eighth grader in Aldera Junior High, had just said. I was backed into a corner in the deepest alleyway behind the main courtyard. Himari backed up by Mako and Ichika, her henchmen who had followed her everywhere since I was old enough to recite any of their names.

I stood quietly, I wanted to cry and scream and kick but it would be useless. I knew they would always be better than me.

After a couple more insults, they backed up, and let me out into the courtyard. Over the speakers, an announcement buzzed, the antennae that poked from my scalp twitched as the lady on the speaker mentioned how she wished us all the best in our high school years. I moped around the courtyard, alone, until they let us out into the world.

I began walking home, with plenty of students trailing behind me, we branched into two groups, then three, then four, and then it was only me and the only student who lived in our neighborhood, Haruto.

Haruto was different from everyone else. I'm sure he saw exactly what everybody else did in me, but he was significantly less vocal about it. This caused me to have feelings for him, more precisely, love.

I'd felt this way since the sixth grade, and it followed for two years, I was glad that we lived close to each other, and almost twice as glad that everyday before we branched apart, we would say goodbye to each other. It made me feel special.

As I opened the door to my home, I heard my mom call out, "Its-I mean Koemi!" She was still adjusting, but I was happy that she was trying. She continued, "your father has a gift for you!" I didn't expect much, but nonetheless, trudged my way to the kitchen.

"Happy middle school graduation," they said in unison, bringing attention to a small bag that read in hiragana, 'MUSUTAFA PHARMACY: PATIENT FURUNAI KOEMI', I opened the bag and found an orange bottle. I picked it out and read it aloud, "ESTROGEN PILLS."
