A Cold Night

As the rain poured out of the night sky it fell upon a man holding an umbrella. The rain that fell onto his umbrella slipped away and dropped onto the quiet street beneath him. The man standing slightly in the streets was not short or tall. And He was not happy, nor was he upset. But he was tired, his young pale face sat drooping with weariness. Everything from his eyes to his cold lips was steeped in a vat of tiredness. To go along with how the man felt his attire was a darker wardrobe choice. The young man wore a black trench coat that was hardly fashionable back when it was first made, and he was also wearing a grey button-up shirt underneath. Both of which were glistening in the moonlight. while rain bounced off the exposed edges of his shirt it landed on his tired and worn black jeans. Some raindrops stayed on his pants, while more adventurous ones moved over to his shoes. His scuffed-up leather shoes took in the water like a sponge. Now You may be wondering what the color of his footwear is. I'm sorry to say this but the moonlight was obscured by a shadow. Cutting off the color and only allowing what it thought was necessary through. Like a guard man at a post.

The man stood their uncomfortably with soggy shoes. And You would think that such cold rain would bother man such as he, however, he paid no attention to the coldness or the wetness of his feet. And he even furthered this casual behavior by not making a single flinch towards many warm and comfortable buildings around him. Each of the buildings was interlocked, like a strip mall. Or a simple city block. Now the street was quiet. But not because it was empty, but because for some reason, the man was disregarded by all the other passing pedestrians. But for an even stranger reason, he didn't bother with them either. In his eyes, the passing foot-travelers were nothing more than a black blur, as if they weren't important to him, or if they weren't apart of his reality. But soon the man perked up as he heard a sound in the distance. He glanced over to his left eagerly staring out at the cold night. He strained his hearing and heard the sound once more, it was someone walking.   Although there were dozens of people walking all around him. He seemed to notice this one more. As the man waited for something to emerge from the sea of passing black blurs, he braced for impact. The young man clenched his jaw and balled his fists. He sat there in fear for a long time as the sound came closer and closer. After waiting for so long the man fell under the weight of his own insecurities and he closed his eyes in fear. His head cocked to one side as he flinched more and more. The sound was so close he could almost taste it. BOOM BAM BOOM It went in his mind Until it halted. Once the sound ended the man opened his eyes to see a young woman standing before him. The woman was wearing a bright white overcoat. It was so bright in fact that it's colors poured off the jacket and onto the ground. To go along with the coat she wore skinny jeans and had a wide brim hat as well. The young woman looked at the man with concern "Are you okay mister?" she asked him.

The young man who was so starstruck by her beauty took a few moments to responded "I-I..I'm okay I suppose other than this weather being so is dreary..but- you can see me?" the man replied. The woman was put-off by the question "Is he serious?" the woman thought to herself. She laughed a bit at the question, not in a mean way but a humourous one "Yes, of course, I can see you" she responded with a smile. As the woman's words floated through the air, the rain, and the moonlight, the man smiled back. He then opened his mouth and spoke "It's been so long since I've talked to someone. I'm happy to meet your acquaintance-" he returned and stuck his hand out. The woman smiled and shook it "I'm Jacob" the man told the girl. She nodded "I'm Autumn. It's nice to meet you Mr.Jacob" she said while giggling. The man let out a short chuckle as well "It's nice to meet you as well Ms. Autumn" he answered. Afterward, the brisk interview the woman gestured towards the road "There's a wonderful bakery just around the corner, care to join me?" she asked. The man eagerly nodded "I would love to" he replied.   As they walked down the street Autumn's face became intrigued by something "Are you sure you're okay? Your hand was quiet cold, colder than the night itself" she urged. The man thought for a moment before responding "I'm perfectly fine, its just-just been, a rather cold evening" the man replied as they walked towards the bakery.
