Everywhere you go there will be someone to judge you, someone who disagrees with you. Someone who doesn't understand what you believe in or who you are. Some will even decide that they cannot be associated with you anymore, no matter the prior relation. My parents made that choice. Throwing out their once loved daughter like trash just because of my sexual preference.

"How dare you make a mockery of this family! I never want to see you again." My mom screamed at me while throwing my clothes out of the apartment window onto the sidewalk below. "Please don't do this Mom. I'm your daughter!" Tears streaming down my face, I tried to fight. " Dakota, you are NOT my daughter. Dakota Bloom will never be my child. A homosexual will never be my child." She sternly said to me. She had blown up in less than 30 minutes after I had just mentioned that I thought I might like girls as well as guys. Bisexual wasn't a concept my parents knew and frankly I don't think they would care. My father stood in silence in the corner. I was always closer to him and I knew he wanted to understand and still loved me, but my mother wouldn't allow me to stay and I could never come back.

After arguing for at least another hour, I stumbled out onto the sidewalk, an empty suitcase in hand, sulking over to the pile of my stuff on the ground. I shoved everything I could into my suitcase, leaving behind only what I could live without. I got situated, and started walking. I didn't have a destination, I just walked.

After a while, I decided to call my best friend Masie and dialed the only number I knew by heart. "Hey Dakota, what's up?" Her cheeriness mocked me. "Hey Mase...this is a little hard to explain but I kind of accidentally outed myself to my mom and now I'm homeless.." She immediately changed her tone. "Wait what?! She kicked you out? I'm so sorry Dakota I'm not sure what to say. Why don't you come live with me! It will be fun! I'm sure my parents won't mind.." I knew her parents would definitely mind and I didn't exactly want to burden them like that. "No Mase it's going to be okay. I just need to find an apartment looking for a roommate ASAP." "Oh! Why don't you go down to the bus stop on 2nd! I saw a few ads for roommates on the wall." An absolute lifesaver. "Thank you so much Mase! I'll call you when I find something and am safe, okay?" "Alrighty Doka! I wish you the best of luck!" "Bye Mase."

I ran down to the bus stop to see if what she had said was true. About 4 ads tacked to the walls. Searching for new roommates...looking for fun roommate.....roommate has to be okay with smoking....hot girl roommate, ugh gross...Aha! "Looking for a new roommate. Three people currently living here. Quiet and low rent!" I exclaimed out loud. I'm an introverted person so quiet screams perfect. I hopped onto the bus to the location on the ad.

As I neared the apartments, glee filled my heart. They weren't too low-class looking but didn't scream expensive. I gathered my bags and walked up to the door. I was about to knock when the door swung open and a blond-haired tall girl stood with a huge grin on her face.

"Hi! My name is Hazel I am one of the current inhabitants of this apartment! You are?" "Uh, I'm Dakota, Dakota Bloom. I'm here from the ad." I nervously pointed to the paper in my hand. "Ah of course! Come on in then!" She motioned for me to come inside. First impressions were amazing. The apartment had shinny dark hard floors and the walls had many pieces of art hanging. It looked very upkept and clean. "Wow this place is nice." I smiled as I looked around. "Thank you! I pride myself on tidying up. The other two here are both boys and only one of their rooms is ever clean." She said as giving me a tour of the place. The stairs led up to the bedrooms.

"Each room has its own bathroom. Don't ask why rent is cheap, I'm honestly not sure how it's possible for a place this nice to have low rent." She pointed to each room. "This one at the end of the hall would be yours!" I pushed open the door to a medium-sized bedroom with a slanted roof and large windows. "I really like it!" I grinned. "Awesome! Then I guess the last thing to do is to introduce you to the others." She then shouted down the hall. "Tyler! Adrian! Come greet our new possible roommate!" She turned back at me still smiling.

Shortly after, two men walked into the room. One having to duck through the door, the other was also tall but not as tall as the first. "I'm Tyler. Nice to meet you." The shorter one with light brown hair reached out to shake my hand. "I'm Adrian. Pleasure." The taller one with dark hair lightly shook my hand, his being twice the size of mine. I've always been short, well being 5'2 and all, but he must have been 6'4! At that moment I felt like a mouse. Frazzled, I remembered I had to speak as well. "I'm Dakota, I'm happy to be here." I smiled weakly. "Shall we go to the living room? I'll make some coffee!" Hazel guided everyone downstairs, her straight blonde hair flowing just above her shorts as she went down the stairs. I, on the other hand, had dark almost black short wavy hair with a pair of bangs that bounced when I walked. She was like a goddess while I felt like the ugly duckling.

I went down next and felt the eyes of both the boys behind me. I know I'm a sight for sore eyes. Being kicked out didn't really give me time to change into something nice. I fashioned an old, beat up oversized white sweater, complemented by my raggedy, way to short black shorts I've had since I could remember. My plain white vans were pretty dirty and made me realize I looked homeless, which now I realize is actually true.

I ignored the embarrassment and sat on the big leather couch. Tyler sat next to me and Adrian sat in a chair far away from me, silently analyzing me. I awkwardly smiled at him, to which he averted his gaze to Hazel. She brought over four cups of hot coffee. "We are all out of milk and sugar thanks to Tyler baking all the time, so I hope you like it black!" She chuckled. "Thankfully it's the only way I take it." I smiled. "So Dakota, I notice you only had a backpack and a suitcase. Leave somewhere in a hurry?" Tyler asked. Adrian flinched. I could tell he didn't like the question. "Not very appropriate to ask that is it?" He sternly commented. "Oh, it's alright, I don't mind," I say quickly in an attempt to break the tension between them

"I actually was kicked out of my parents' house this morning. I basically accidentally outed my bisexuality to my very catholic mother, who is apparently not my mother anymore so now I'm a homeless orphan." I grinned sarcastically. Hazel and Tyler reassured me with empathetic voices while Adrian just leaned over to put his elbows on his knees. "Interesting." He remarked. "Well I'm sure having you around won't be a bother to any of us, hopefully. If no one else has a problem we can go ahead and have you sign the lease." He stood up and got some papers off a table. Handing me a pen from his pant pocket with an intimidating gaze.

I signed the papers, knowing in my mind everything was bound to be alright and I already seemed to have found friends with Hazel and Tyler.

Not completely sold on Adrian though.
