As I stirred from my sleep, my phone rang, jolting me awake. Rubbing my eyes, I reached for it and answered groggily. Nakapikit ako habang itinapat ang aking cellphone sa tainga.

"Hello?" I mumbled, my voice thick with sleep.

"Summer, gising na! D-duty na tayo sa ospital," Tanya's voice crackled through the phone.

I sat up abruptly, disbelief coursing through me. "Duty? Ngayon na?" I asked, my brows furrowing in confusion.

Tanya's laughter echoed on the line. "Oo, ngayon na. Check mo nga email mo," she said, sounding amused.

I sighed and reluctantly unlocked my phone. Scrolling through my emails, I found one from our Dean confirming our duty schedule for today. My eyes widened in realization. It was true.

Kumabog ng malakas ang aking puso, may halong excitement at kaba while I processed the information. "Oh my gosh, Tanya, totoo nga!" I exclaimed, a grin spreading across my face.

Tanya chuckled on the other line. "See? Kaya ginising kita, eh. Magbihis ka na, punta na tayo." she said eagerly.

I nodded vigorously, already planning my outfit for the day. "Sige, sige. I’ll hang up this call na!" I replied, excitement bubbling within me.

I was overcome by a cloud of confusion, leaving me feeling bewildered and uncertain about how to proceed. As I tried to reconcile this new information with what I thought I knew. How could I have missed this? I berated myself silently, feeling a pang of frustration at my own oversight.

Taking a deep breath, I reminded myself to stay calm. There was no use dwelling on what could have been. Instead, I needed to focus on the present moment and adapt to this unexpected change in plans.

Kinuha ko ang aking CHN bag, I checked my essentials like a stethoscope, penlight, notepad, clinical handbook, scrubs, comfortable shoes, water bottle, snacks, and identification card.

As soon as the reality sunk in, agad akong kumilos. Nagmamadali akong nagmartsa patungo sa banyo, mabilis akong nagsabon at naligo, ang malamig na tubig ay nakakatulong para magising ako ng buo. With efficiency born out of necessity, I dried myself off and swiftly dressed in my nursing uniform, smoothing out any wrinkles with practiced ease.

With my uniform neatly in place, nabaling ang atensyon ko sa mahaba kong buhok. Dahil alam ko na kailangan ko ng praktikal ngunit propesyonal na hitsura, I gathered my hair into a low bun, securing it tightly with a hair tie at ilang madiskarteng inilagay na bobby pin upang mapanatili ang anumang maluwag na mga hibla.
