Ryujin was completely head over heels for Hwang Yeji. Unfortunately, Yeji never noticed her throughout high school.
Or, so she thought.
Ryujin thought she would forget about her crush after graduation and move on. But, of course she had to be roomm...
"That was Jisu. Her and I are going to grab dinner tonight," I said. I flickered my eyes to Yeji only to see her eyes widened for a second before turning into something unreadable.
"Jisu as in your ex Jisu?" Kai teased while poking my stomach. I rolled my eyes and slapped his hand away,
"Yes that Jisu."
"M-my cousin Jisu?" Yeji asked. I looked over to her and awkwardly nodded. The look she was giving me was making me feel extremely nervous. It was as if I was betraying her.
"Yeah," I said. She looked away,
"Oh."
. . .
"Hey Ryujinnie! The girls are he— when did you go out?" Hyunjin asked as he entered my room, without knocking again I have to add. I removed my gray beanie off my head and my denim jacket,
"Around 6. I just came back ten minutes ago. I had dinner with Jisu," I said while tossing my jacket on my bed. Hyunjin furrowed his eyebrows together and crossed his arms,
"Why?" He asked. I looked over at him and shrugged,
"You wanted me to do something productive right? Well, I did something productive," I said. I sat myself on my chair and looked over at him,
"Why? What's up?" I asked. He pointed out the door,
"I was going to let you know Yeji and Jinny came over. But tell me how that dinner went first," he said while seating himself on the edge of my bed. I playfully rolled my eyes,
"If you're asking if anything exciting happened then no. We just caught up and that's pretty much it," I causally said. Hyunjin slowly nodded,
"No chance of you two getting back together?" He asked. And I don't know if it was in my head or not but Hyunjin looked slightly worried. Maybe for my sake. He remembered how I was after the break up and during the relationship. I was different.
I shook my head with a light smile, "Never. Besides, she's engaged now did you know that?" I asked excitedly. Hyunjin smiled widely while abruptly standing up,
"That's amazing! Now, come on out and hang out with us," he demanded, completely changing the subject. I grinned and looked at him weirdly,
"Is that a demand or an offer?" I teased. He ignored me and took my wrist, dragging me out the door.
"Hey Ryujin!" Jinny greeted from the couch. I smiled and sent a short wave. I looked over to the other side and noticed Yeji staring at me. I smiled at her which she immediately reciprocated then looked down at her hands. I walked over to her and sat beside her,
"Hey," I said. She lifted her head and grinned at me,
"Hi," she said while combing her fingers through her hazelnut hair. I chuckled,
"You know what I realized?" I asked. She furrowed her eyebrows,
"What?" She asked.
"That you do this a lot," I said while mindlessly reaching over and placing a couple of strands of her hair behind her ear. She widened her eyes and tensed up making me realized what I had done. I internally hissed and pulled back,
"Sorry," I coughed out. She cleared her throat and nodded with an awkward chuckle,
"I-it's uh it's okay. H-how was dinner?" She suddenly asked. I looked down at my hands and shrugged,
"It was good. It was nice catching up with her. Gosh, I haven't seen Jisu in a very long time," I breathed out. Yeji adjusts herself so she was able to turn her body to face me,
"How long were you guys together?" She asked. I pursued my lips and looked away,
"For a year," I said. She then looked away as well and nodded,
"A-any chance that you guys will be getting back together?" I had to laugh at that which made her immediately look at me in confusion.
"I can't believe she didn't even tell you," I chuckled out. Yeji tilted her head with a little pout. She looked as if she was slowly growing agitated,
"Tell me what?"
"She's engaged," I stated which made her mouth turn into an 'O.' I shook my head with a grin,
"And either way I would have to say no. We had our time but we just weren't meant to be," I causally said. Suddenly feeling my phone vibrate, I looked down and clenched my jaw,
Kai: Did you ask yet?
Fuck it.
"Hey Yej?" I called out. She hummed as a response and looked over at me. I let out a breath and ignored the way my heart was beating rapidly against my chest. The rhythm was different. It was filled with both hope and fear. Did I really want to know?
"A-are you single?"
Her eyes widened and her cheeks turned slightly red. She fidgeted in discomfort and averted her eyes everywhere but at me,
"Y-yes. Why?" She asked. I grinned and shook my head,
"No reason. I was just curious."
"Yeah, why are you curious about my cousins love life Shin?" I looked over at Hyunjin who was sending me a knowing smirk. I narrowed my eyes,
"Am I not allowed to ask questions?"
"No, you are. You're definitely allowed to do what you please with my cousin," Hyunjin said. Jinny playfully slapped his arm with a chuckle,
"Don't be weird, that's your cousin," she scolded. Hyunjin wiggled his eyebrows at us,
"Yeah, my SINGLE cousin." He stated. I looked over at Yeji and sighed seeing a look of discomfort settled on her face. Was she uncomfortable with the idea of me flirting with her in anyway? Maybe she thinks I have other intentions with her, romance wise.
"Relax jin. Yeji and are just friends. And friends are allowed to ask questions. Right?" I asked Yeji. She stared at me for a moment before slowly nodding her head.
What made me grow even more confused was that she held an expression that I couldn't read. It was mixed of something, disappointment?
Stop it Ryujin. Don't get your hopes up.
I sighed and stood up. "I'm going to head to bed. Goodnight girls," I tiredly said. Suddenly, a soft hand snatched my wrist,
"Well I guess now it's my turn to ask," she paused for a moment before looking at me dead in the eyes. It was so intense that I found myself holding my breath in anticipation.
"Are you single?" Yeji asked. Her eyes held something that I still could not understand. And after a moment of wondering what she was thinking about, I slowly nodded my head with slight caution,
"Yes," I said. She stared at me for another second before nodding her head and grinning up at me,
"Okay."
Okay?
