'Bye' Vi waved before driving off.
I stepped on the porch .
Something didn't feel right...
Did I perhaps forget something?
I did a quick check rummaging through the contents of my bag.
I didn't forget anything
why do you have to be so damn fussy all the time ?
I reached for the  knob and the door slowly creaked open.
Weird.
My mum wasn't someone to leave the door open.
Not even by accident.
Hmm
I shrugged it off.
The house was dark.
Mum had switched the lights off ?
Not possible, mum was terrified of the dark, she even slept with the lights on, something she and dad always quarrel ed about.
,I took a step in, the atmosphere felt frigid,it didn't feel right.
'mum? '
'yes sweetie ' she answered.
It sounded like she was upstairs.
I called again as I climbed the stairs, still got the same reply. I stopped, I  felt uneasy .
'mum, are you okay?' I asked.
There was no response.
There were five rooms upstairs, she could have been in any one.
I checked hers first,it was the first room on my right.
No one.
I checked the second room on my right, then the other two on my left.
Empty.
My stomach churned.
The last room...
My instincts  told me she wasn't there.
Run.
No .
Defying my instincts, I placed my hand on the knob and slowly turned...
'Jessica? '
I turned swiftly to meet my mum staring wide eyed at me.
I was confused, so confused.
'how_'.
'honey, I'll explain everything later, listen, I just need you to back away from that door.'
Before I could make a run for it, my jacket was snagged  on something .
I felt my stomach knot with fear.
It wasn't something, it was a hand.
It's gnarled fingers moved forward gripping my arm tighter and sinking it's claws into my skin, the intense pain that stung like cold knives was the last thing I felt  before the world went black.
