"Hermione! Are you awake?"

I looked up from my book and frowned at the door, "Yes."

"Well get a move on! Aunt Jessica is coming in a few hours so you better start cleaning the house!" mother shouted from the door.

I groaned. "What was that?" mother snapped.

"I said I better get ready." I said, dreading what was to come. Aunt Jessica. Aunt Jessica and her children were the most self absorbed people I had ever met. My cousins might be the similar age as me but they loved makeup, fashion items and accessories. I still couldn't see how we could be related.

As I got up and dressed in to my usual outfits; a plain t-shirt, blue jeans and a bright green hairband, I thought about yesterday, and when I had somehow made the lights flicker when I had been angry at my class mates. These things often happened with me, although I didn't get how or why. Whenever I was scared, or angry, something weird, something strange, something magical would happen. Something that wasn't supposed to happen, and an act that made everybody think I was a freak.

"That window isn't clean!" mother said, as soon as I arrived downstairs, "Make yourself useful and wipe it, will you?"

"Yes mother," I replied gloomily and taking the wipes from the table beside mother who was making food.

'Ding dong dang dong, dong dang ding dong'

"Get the door!" mother snapped at me. I obliged and opened the door to get pushed out of the way by the clambering of about 5 or so girls, all wearing the latest fashions and not even looking at me.

"Now now girls," scolded Aunt Jessica, pushing her bags in to my arms while walking in after her daughters.

"Jean! How are you?" Aunt Jessica said, smiling as she noticed mother coming out of the doorway. The two sisters looked extremely alike, with the same curly brown hair, although Jessica and her daughters had dyed them blonde,  and lovely, oval shaped eyes.

"I'm fine, Jess," mother called, over the continued arguing of her nieces,  "Hermione is being a pain, of course but otherwise quite fine."

Aunt Jessica looked over at me, her eyes narrowing, "So, I'm guessing that you haven't changed a bit, have you?"
"No, she hasn't." mother agreed, glaring at me as well.

"You still have the silly bush that you call hair? Can't you get it fixed, Jean, dear?"

"No," mother said sourly, "I tried of course but she re-bushes it with that freak power of hers. I so tried to change it Jess, it reminds me so much of Henry."

"Ah...yes," my aunt said, scowling at me, "Took a lot for granted, that one. And no manners at all."

I scowled back at my aunt. I had never met my father, and while I still resented him for leaving me, Aunt Jessica had no right talking about him like that. All I knew, since mother usually never talked about him in my presence, was that father had been a man who worked with the government and they had been happily married until he unexpectedly left her with absolutely no explanation without even bothering to wait until I had been born.

"Move over, nerd." sneered, one of my cousins, Jasmine. "We don't want any freak germs spreading over us, do we?"

Her sisters sniggered.

My mother smirked and then smiled at her nieces"Hello, Jasmine, Anastasia, Sofia, Juno and Darling." I'm not kidding, her name is actually Darling. Why they named a devil 'Darling', I don't know.

"Hello, Aunt Jean." The snobs said, batting their eye lashes at her.

I rolled my eyes and snorted causing everyone's eyes to fall on me.

"Do you have anything to say, dear?" mother asked in her most dangerously sweet voice.

"No, mother." I muttered, looking away from their narrowed or mocking gaze.

Mother pursed her lips but turned to Aunt Jessica and said, "We better go in and have some food, Jess. It's better to eat it when it's warm."

"Of course," she said, turning away from me and glancing at her daughters, "Girls, make sure not to eat too much, you  don't want to turn out like this."   She gestured at me with distaste.

My cousins gave me a triumphant look, to which I raised my eyebrows, and walked in to the dining room with their noses in the air.

Aunt Jessica smiled at mother and then left after her daughters, causing mother and I to be left alone.

Mother's smile immediately vanished as she turned and grabbed me by the arm and pushed me in to the kitchen, "Listen closely, girl," mother snarled, "Any funny business at this dinner and you're going to be stuck in your room with no food for a week! Do you understand me?"

I nodded, silently, too used to these threats to be scared. Mother nodded and dragged me in to the dining room and threw me on the floor, causing all of my Aunt and cousins bags to roll around on the floor, and my cousins shout of shock and disgust.

"Now, now." my aunt said again, although she was sneering at me with an amused gleam in her eyes, "You mustn't do that, Hermione. Pick it up, go on!"

I slowly bent down and picked everything up and put it in to a corner of the room. When I came back, my cousins were already complaining about my clumsiness, 'It's bad enough that she's a bushy haired nerd with no fashion sense what so ever, she has to be a clumsy freak too?'

I rolled my eyes but said nothing.

As everyone finished eating mounts and mounts of food, despite what they said about not becoming 'like me', mother snapped, "Get the juice, girl."

I got the juice and poured it to everyone without reply.

Jasmine smirked as she received her glass and then threw all of the contents on to me. I cried out, shocked as my cousins laughed and threw their cups at me too. I raised my arms above my head and a shield, appeared suddenly out of thin air, causing the juice to rebound and hit the cousins, much to everyone's shock.

"GIRL!!" Mother shouted, getting to her feet and looking murderously at me, "Go to your room, this instant, young lady!"

I nodded, still in shock and then walked up to my room still able to hear my cousins wails and comments, 'I'm all wet, ma!' 'I'm gonna kill that freak! Who does she think she is?' 'This designer outfit cost 100 pounds!'

I sighed as I heard mother and Aunt Jessica fuming and complaining about me loudly. Did nobody in this family actually love me? The only person I had ever felt like loved me was...Emma. But she gone where I could not bring her back. I realized, just then, that I am truly alone-'CRACK!' Wait. What was that?

A/N Thanks for reading, although my work is so terrible, I'm probably the only one reading it. But still, if your reading, thank you so much and I hope you enjoyed!
