"Mr. Ronald Weasley."
The red-headed man nods. Looking as firm as he can.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Ma'am," Ron said, "I don't think I fit in that well in here."
"So you need three years to notice that?"
The Asian woman in front of him chuckles. No, not that she disrespected one member of the famous Golden Trio. He has always been a good Auror, an amazing one if she may say the truth. He has a bunch of good friends here so his reason is a little unreasonable. At least for her.
"Ron, you are one amazing Auror. Why would you let that title go?"
Ron shrugged, "I don't know. I miss my family, I guess."
"You are the one who refused to go home and did your mission instead, Ron."
Ron grins, seems like he is out of reasons. Cho Chong was an intelligent student. The girl who even once captured his best friend's heart and attention. The ex girlfriend of the incredible Cedric Diggory. Why did he expect to fool her?
"I had a fight, you see," he finally states.
"With Greengrass?"
"As long as I know, she is my one and only girlfriend."
"Was it a big fight?" Cho looks worried, "I mean, you fight often. But you never backed up like this before. Are you okay?'
Ron clears his throat. Pushed a small smile on his lips.
"Yes. I just need Harry to be with me."
The expression on Cho's face softens. Ron and Harry were inseparable back then. She misses Harry sometimes, he was a really good friend. Ron muttered to himself. What a fool he is to think that he can go through everything without Harry and of course, Hermione.
"You don't need to quit, Ron. I'll let you to go in furlough. Christmas is coming anyway."
"I'll consider that, then," he gets up from his seat. Gives Cho a smile before taking his leave.
"Tell me in three days, Ron!"
"Okay!"
He walks to his office and reaches for his suitcase. He needs to go home, where his girlfriend might be crying a river.
A smell of a delicious stew welcomes him as he opens the door. There she is. Cooking for him.
"Dear..."
"Go take a bath. I'll set this up for you."
"We need to talk first, then I'll take a bath."
"Just do as I say, Ron. I don't really want to argue about anything right now."
"Yet you are the one who makes all our arguments happen!"
Daphne Gresngrass looks taken aback. A frown appears on her face as she puts the stew on the table.
"I am not the one who has been so busy with work, Ron!"
"I work for us, Daphne! For our life!" Ron scowls.
"All I need is your existence!" Daphne yells back in anger, her face is reddening, "You refused to take me to your family. Don't you think that hurts me?"
"I...."
"My little sister is hardly being excepted by The Zabinis, his husband's family. It frightens me, Ron. Do you think I would want that to happen to me?"
Ron sighs and his hands move to rub his face roughly. He can't stand Daphne crying yet right now he has no comforting words to offer.
"You know, Love? You can go to your family's house this Christmas. I'll go to mine."
"Are you kidding me?"
"I just...I miss my family, Daphne."
"Why can't I come with you? We've been dating for almost five years!"
"I'm sorry. I need to be alone for some times," he finals, "You should visit your sister."
"Fine. If that's what you want."
With that, he goes to his room. Writing a letter to Cho.
Cho, my dearest Ministry of Magic,
I'll take your offer. I'll go in furlough for a week or maybe more, not sure about that yet. I promise to bring you some Christmas present back and tell Harry that you miss him.
Love,
Ron.
He owls it to her. Not finding any reason to wait for a reply and so he starts packing his clothes.
He can see Daphne packing her clothes too. She even packs the blue hand-knitted sweater. Ron has the same sweater. She bought it for their third anniversary.
"I am very sorry, Daphne. I didn't want to push you away," he whispered once again.
"It's okay. You should take your time to rest. I am sorry for confronting you," she looks at him lovingly. A slick of disenchantment is being put softly in her deep blue eyes.
Oh, Ron. How could you hurt this fallen angel?
He leans in a little closer before gently placing his lips on hers. It isn't a long kiss. It lasts for ten seconds before they both pull over.
"You do know that I love you, don't you?"
"I do."
Vague yet noticable. The doubt in her voice.
