Erin Deavor didn't like to be kept waiting. It made her nervous. She was sitting at a table with two guys at Ursula's fish and chips restaurant, and she kept glancing at the door anxiously, as though she was waiting for something. For someone.
A few minutes later, an isle kid dressed up in full pirate garb strutted into the restaurant, electric teal hair braided in rows and topped with a classic pirate hat.
"Uma!" Erin's anxious look lightened as she rushed over to greet the pirate girl.
"That's my name," she winked, giving Erin a flirtatious little wave. The two boys she had been sat with stood up and bowed jokingly to Uma.
"That Little traitor," Uma glared at the TV screen on the restaurant wall, where a video of Mal and Ben was being broadcasted.
"She left us in the dark," Erin agreed, mimicking Uma's glare. She adjusted her goggles a little, then wrapped her black hoodie closer around herself, shivering slightly from the cold sea air.
"She said you weren't big or bad enough to be in her gang," Gil added. Uma just looked at him. "Back when we were kids," everyone had turned around to stare at him. "Come on, you guys remember. She called her shrimpy, and the name just kind of... stuck," Uma was glaring at Gil almost as angrily as she had been at Mal. He had crossed a line. Erin thought she might hit him, but she decided to just ignore him altogether.
"That snooty little witch," she turned back to Erin. "She grabbed everything she wanted and left me nothing."
Gil started babbling about their childhoods again but nobody was really listening.
"I need you to stop talking," Uma raised her hand, and Gil backed off.
"Look, we have her turf now. They can stay in Bore-adon" one of the pirate boys piped up. Uma pushed him back.
"No, Harry. That's her turf now. And I want it too!"
"We should not be getting her leftovers," Erin agreed. It was a shame really - before they left for Auradon, Erin had been friendly with the VKs. They would come into her mom's shop to get their bikes fixed or upgraded after whatever shenanigans they had been up to, and Erin would chat to them as her mom worked. Not that she would ever let Uma know, of course. She obviously hated the VKs, so Erin was expected to hate them too.
"Son of Hook. Son of Gaston. Daughter of Evelyn Deavor. And most of all, me! Daughter of Ursula. What's my name?" She turned to Erin, whacking Gil across the face with her hair. He either didn't notice or didn't care. Erin pulled up her goggles, tousling her hair, and bowed to her.
"Uma," she responded. Then, she tossed a pebble across the room, to where it hit the top of a small radio and skittered across the room. Music began to play throughout the restaurant. Uma jumped up onto the table and started to sing. She caused quite a commotion, but nobody minded very much. They were all too scared of Uma and her pirates to cause a scene about it.
Erin joined in about halfway through with a little rap, thinking it might be fun. She wasn't really the singing type, but she was Uma's first mate, so when Uma sang, she was expected to help out.
The song eventually drew to a close, with Uma sitting on an adapted chair that looked almost as a throne with her impressive demeanor. Erin sat on the ground by her side, and she ran a hand through her hair, tousling it even more. Erin fiddled with the bright blue crystal she wore around her neck - a gift from Uma. It was one of her most cherished possessions. The two of them might have stayed like that forever, except that Ursula pushed one of her tentacles through the divide between the kitchen and the floor, knocking Uma out of her chair.
"Shut your clam!" She called. Uma rolled her eyes.
"Mom!" She yelled.
"These dishes ain't gonna wash themselves," Ursula was not happy. Erin looked up at her, concerned.
"It's fine," she said. "It's fine. Because when I get my chance to rain down the evil on Auradon, I will take it. They're gonna forget that girl, and remember the name-"
Gil cut her off, to her intense displeasure. "Shrimpy!" Uma jerked her head towards the door, and Harry complied, dragging Gil off towards the exit, leaving Erin and Uma alone with the rest of the pirates.
"I'll catch you later," she blew Erin a kiss and turned on her heel, strutting away to the kitchen.
"Well, I better go help my mom at the shop," Erin said to nobody in particular, and with that, she was gone.
