The beef tasted good; it was pure, natural meat.

Chen An glanced over at Ding Sheng, who’d just walked out from behind the folding screen; he’d taken a bath and was wearing a black T-shirt. Ding Sheng clearly liked his own clothes better.

“What did he say?” Ding Sheng walked up. Admittedly he regarded Lu Feng and Chen Yang as Chen An’s accomplices, but in this strange world, they were the only ones that could help each other.

Chen An sighed: “He said no.”

Chen Yang and Lu Feng couldn’t simply vanish into thin air, could they?

“I also asked him whether he’d seen a guy with blonde hair and blue eyes, and who looked sort of different,” Chen An added, “do you know what he said?”

“He saw Ivanov?” Ding Sheng guessed.

Chen An shook his head: “He told me people here did not look like that. That should be the foreign nationals in the north, only they had such strange looks.”

Chen An saw that Ding Sheng had been listening to him single-mindedly since he sat down, so he picked up a slice of beef and put it in Ding Sheng’s bowl. Then he continued: “When I described Ivanov, I could see that the tavern boy had a strange expression, I was afraid he might suspect something, so I told him when we came down the mountain, we saw some foreign nationals. I urged him to be cautious because those people might still be around.”

“It is as well that you asked, if I was to ask the waiter, he would definitely suspect something.” Ding Sheng still could not bring himself to say tavern boy and insisted on calling him waiter.

Chen An totally agreed. If he’d sent Ding Sheng to ask around, they might soon be regarded as lunatics.

“Ding Sheng, what if we cannot go back? Have you thought about it?”

It was their second day in this strange new world, only the second day.

Chen An wasn’t entirely sure about Changle’s words. If they were to do good with the weapons they had, did it mean they could just fight a bunch of bandits and help the common people, or should they end the disorder in this world and establish a peaceful and stable society?

“Old people tend to overthink themselves. If we cannot go back, overthinking won’t help us. Let’s just see how it goes,” Ding Sheng chewed on the beef Chen An gave him and smiled heartily, “Stop being a pessimist; think about the good things, like this delicious beef! It’s much better than what I used to eat, and cheaper, too!”

Chen An was amused by Ding Sheng words, was he a pessimist? Why on earth would this young man think him a pessimist?

Like they did yesterday, Chen An and Ding Sheng slept on the same bed the second night. Learning from the first night’s experience, Ding Sheng managed to get a good night’s sleep.

In the morning, when Chen An opened his eyes and found himself in a very intimate embrace with Ding Sheng, he stiffened for a moment.

Ding Sheng soon opened his eyes too and beamed to a face inches from his: “Morning, Uncle Chen.”

“Morning.” Chen An managed to unobtrusively disentangle himself out of Ding Sheng’s arms. He then turned over and got out of bed.

Although he was very gentle in his movements, Ding Sheng still sensed that Chen An was trying to keep a distance, and thus had an uncomfortable feeling somewhere inside his chest.

Then he laughed at his own sensitivity: if it wasn’t for the incredulous crash and time travel, they’d still be in the modern world, and being who they were, there was no way they could be getting on nicely with each other.
