Aftershocks

Wonderment

He sat on the edge of the bed after the treatment, wondering what all of this was for. The treatments, the lying, the hiding. Why was he doing it? Why did he put up with it? He really did take a liking to Blair. He was a sweet kid and he couldn't help but smile at the thought of him. But what Roger Harris couldn't shake was the repercussions he would face if anyone found out about his little affair. He took off his tie as he thought back to meeting Blair. Was this boy worth risking his congress position, his marriage, and a rude 'welcome back' from the past? As he unbuttoned his shirt, he admitted to himself that no matter what, Blair would find out soon enough. About all of it. If he had found out about Dr. Egon, who's to say he wouldn't quickly find out about--

"Robby, what are you staring at?" His wife interrupted his thoughts and he realized that he had in fact been staring off into the abyss. He shook away his trance and proceeded to undress for bed.

"Nothing dearest. Just something that came up at work today. I don't want to bother you with it right before we go to sleep." 

"Oh father, you can bother me with anything at any time, you know that."

"I know mother, but now isn't an appropriate time to have this conversation." He knew he'd lose everything if his dear wife knew what was on his mind. It was bad enough his father-in-law had already suspected something, he didn't need Corky to as well. 

He watched as she climbed into their bed and pulled the covers up to her neck, her back facing the congressman. He sighed as he took a look at himself in the mirror before following after. He wrapped an arm around her torso and gently kissed her shoulder, then he turned over and faced the blank wall that he found himself staring at night after night. This night though, was different for Congressman Roger Harris, because he found himself thinking of where it had all gone wrong.
