Author's Note

I was advised by my beta (S.A) to write a sort of forward to my story since my chapters are very long for this fanfic. This is just an explanation of the story, the idea behind it, and some other things that I want to mention.

Firstly, this is a remix of a fanfiction story by the author ThatOneAnimagus on the fanfiction writing site FFN. This story wouldn't have occurred if I hadn't come across their amazing story called 'The Marauders and Umbridge'. Due to the fact that this writer and their work got me out of my writing slump and far more confident in writing HP fanfic, I am dedicating this story to them. I strongly suggest to those that decide to read my humble story to check out the original fanfic posted on FF dot net and to give that author some much deserved love.

As for this story, as those that are well versed in Harry Potter can tell, this is obviously an Alternative Universe (AU). Dolores Umbridge features predominately in this fanfic as the antagonist in this fanfic. Obviously, she would have been a child herself during the Marauders school years, but I loved the idea of exploring a fic where Umbridge is a professor during the Marauders schooldays. I wanted to explore the relationship that Remus had with his friends during this time as they would have obviously noticed Umbridge's hatred and animosity towards their friend, but mostly- I wanted to further explore the hatred and ignorance that Umbridge would have had towards Remus had she known that he was a werewolf at Hogwarts.

Monster is only going to have a few parts (chapters) to it. This story is looking at the direct aftermath of Remus' detention with Umbridge, and is actually a scene that inspired me to write this fic in the original. While my story does take great liberties with the original, the main focus was getting into Remus' head surrounding the horrendous abuse that he had to endure during his detention.

For the sake of context, this story takes place during the Marauders second year at Hogwarts. I have changed a few things that occur within the original, but outside of the more obvious, I have kept as close to the canon as possible.

Canonically, we do not know Umbridge's true age in the HP series, nor the year she was born. Some sites list her as being out of Hogwarts by the time Remus and the others started attending, others state that she could have been only a few years younger and could have started her first year when the Marauders were in their fourth or fifth year. It is noted on Pottermore, that Snape clearly dislikes her and teases the reader into believing that perhaps Snape would have known Umbridge while she was attending school.

However, out of respect for the author of 'The Marauders and Umbridge', I will keep the age of Umbridge the same as it was when she was tormenting Harry in his fifth year. This is due to the fact that the writer's intention was to explore what damage Umbridge could have inflicted to Remus had she known that there was a werewolf attending Hogwarts.

I imagine she would have been very horrified and angry once she found out that one of her students, who by all accounts was an exceptionally talented and bright student was suffering with Lycanthropy.

Lastly, I would like to thank my beta S.A, who is not only the best cheerleader a writer can ask for, but has also been very patient ensuring that the story was in English.

Now, without further ado, let's get to the first chapter. While, the chapters are very long, I really do hope that they are interesting enough to read, but if preferred, I can always separate the sections into different chapters- just to make it easier to read.
