The wind blew through the trees making whispers, he remembered when his life meant something to someone. He broke down and sobbed quietly, what will happen when no one can remember him anymore. And will his stories be told.
He often went to the pub to talk to people, who looked alone and told them his story.
"I worked as a sailor for many a year," The person who was on a bar stool said nothing but listened intently.
"But this one time, I saw a beautiful yet strange woman, standing at the edge of the pier, wondering to myself why there was such a beautiful woman standing there when everyone else was busy running around with heavy loads. In spit of this the lady wore a long white dress, it looked wet although, her hair didn't seem wet at all. Her hair was a beautiful strawberry blond that was blowing in the wind, but I felt like there was something wrong, it was the stare in her eyes she looked sad and like she had lost someone close to her with a tear running from her eye. As my boat got moored we tied the boat alongside the berth and I jumped ashore and ran to the pier, but the lady was no longer standing there. She wasn't any where to be seen, as the harbour was small so was the pier where she was standing, she would of needed to run to stopping me from seeing her. Mostly men went to the harbour. So I asked around to find if anyone had seen a beautiful woman, I tried to describe her to them but they just shook there heads and said "No."
The guy on the bar stool had a shocked expression on his face and chugged some beer down his gullet. "Sorry, if that scared you, mate. I apologize where are my manners I didn't introduce my self my name is Jock MacTavish what's your name?" The other man said with a smile "My name is Stephen" they shook hands, Stephen had a slim strong figure you could see he worked out. The old man was curious and said "Why are you alone? If you don't mind me asking" Stephen looked upset "I had a fight with my wife, I'm a bit down but, I'm glad you came and chatted with me otherwise, I don't know what I would have done." The old man said, with a sad expression: "I know how that feels, but trust me it's better to talk to your wife and sort it out, my wife died 2 years ago, I miss her like crazy and wish I was nicer to her" with sad expression's on our faces we drank some more beer. "do you want to hear more stories??"
Stephen raised his head in excitement: "yes I would like to hear more stories." Jock raised his beer and said "then you better be prepared, as the story is of the woman that I saw at the harbour that one day" Stephen chugged his beer untill it was empty, "so as you know no one saw the woman that was standing at the pier, so I was crazy to ask but the woman made me wonder" Jock paused "wondered what Jock?" said Stephen "I wondered if she was a ghost I know it sounds crazy but that was the only thing that I could think of at the time. So I asked my good pals who worked on the boat with me if there was a lady who had died at the pier, they didn't know so I asked the people at the harbour and they said to talk to an old guy that always just sat and watched the people unload the fish so I introduced my self. Trying to be nice." Jock waved to the the bar man asking for another beer for himself and Stephen.
"When I got the courage to ask the old man if anyone had died he replied yes a really really long time ago before the harbour was even built, a woman had kids, and wanted to go to the seaside with them so she took them on a day trip to the beach that is now turned into a harbour. Everyone was having fun laughing and playing in the water, she only looked away for a second but when she looked back her kids had gone too far out she tried everything to get to them but when she did, they had already drowned" Jock looked down sadly into his beer "as she had lost everything she didn't have a husband as he died at sea now the kids had gone she couldn't take any more so she just kept going till she couldn't go anymore and drowned. now she shows up at the harbour because that's the place her kids died that is why she looks the way she does."
With a tear in Stephens eye says in a sad tone "thats really sad, so is she trying to look for them" Jock stayed silent "I think she was. I seen her more than just that once through, do you need to go back to your misses as she will be waiting for you and it's already midnight." Stephen looked at his watch "o God I should, she be getting really worried. But can I come tomorrow I want some more of the story."
