My god that poor girl has been here for hours, she can’t be older than 18 at the most. This cafe is no place for a young woman like her, she is just asking for trouble, with all the crime going on round here at the moment, that gang going round a abducting young girls. She looks like she is in her own little world; she's talking to herself that can’t be right can it? She must have been alone for a long time; she can’t be well, truth be told I'm extremely worried; she’s been her since opening hours. Her hair is greasy, she has thick black eyeliner, put on loosely like she hasn’t bothered, not to mention the fact she obviously doesn't have any money because she has only bought one coffee since being here and still drinking it! She’s wearing a large black top, way too large for a skinny girl like her, black jeans with holes and black shoes with one large hole at the side. Out the corner of my eye I see the regular old man waving at me for my attention.
I finish waving at the waitress now I have her attention and cough deeply and loudly, my cancer is defiantly getting worse, I'm going to miss this place. But at least I have had a good healthy life up until now not bad making it to 68. I straighten the newspaper and crease it out, top story today. Man found guilty and sentenced to life for murder of two women, abduction of the deceased daughter’s and arson. Finally that man deserves everything he gets killing that poor young teenager and woman and the other missing girl, two years ago. Bastard, glad i lived to see that. I look up and there is the waitress. I show her the newspaper
‘Have you seen this Debra?’ Her eyes fill with sadness but she smiles
‘Yeah it is so sad, one of the worst stories I have seen in my lifetime. I am so glad he is being locked away. I really hope they find that poor young girl. How old would she be now? 17?’
‘Yeah, with some luck maybe they will’ I reply. Although we both know she is most likely dead. Then Debra shakes her head and smiles
‘What will it be then Jeff? I haven’t got all day’ she said laughed, I chuckled back
‘Urr coffee and please get that young girl over there a hot chocolate with everything you have to go on It.’ She gave me a questioning look.
‘You've noticed her too?’
‘Yes I have, she hasn’t eaten anything either so please get her some pancakes’
She smiled at me
‘Sure thing, coming right up, you are such a good man Jeff’ and she left.
I had noticed that mysterious girl, I shouldn’t be staring but I do and I will, such a interesting character. Very quiet, she looks so lost and dirty. She looks up at me, I smile and wave she gives sort of half smile and looks out the window for a bit. Then Debra brings her, her hot chocolate and pancakes
‘I didn’t order this, I can’t afford it’ she said a little worked up. I got up and walked towards her
‘I ordered it, I thought you looked hungry’ She sighed in relief and thanked me and tucked it. I laughed. I looked out the window and saw a man watching her, I know her is watching her. I can’t let him do anything to her when she goes to leave I will pay for a taxi or something, no one is hurting this girl, not under my watch.
Is that old man staring at me? SHIT he is I'm busted, Dan keep your cool, you need to do this you have too, otherwise you won't get in the gang and then they will kill you, you know they will. It’s not like we are doing anything wrong. It’s just all a bunch of fun. Dan you have to move soon or he will tell her and your mission is- Hang on, who is that girl over there she is so much nicer than that tramp in the café. I’ll take her; man the boys will be so pleased. That old man is still staring at me, he looks like he will die any minute ha-ha game on old man, if you get in my way I get in the way of your petty life. Bloody hell those boys are annoying, stupid teenagers! Don't know what they should be doing with their life, they are going to end up just like me hanging around in the shadows. Literally.
‘Fuck me that was a lot of vodka!!’ I shout at the top of my lungs, a sharp pain rams into my ribs,
‘Shut up dick head we’re 17 not 18 god you’re going to get us arrested!’ Mike hissed at me, I shrug.
‘I'm cold!’ Meg shouted ‘Can we go into that café please?’
‘What and get caught I Don’t think so’ Mike replied.
‘Come on man, we will cause no trouble’ I said, putting my arm around Meg.
‘Fine don’t listen to me it’s your funeral, I'm going home.’ He shrugged and waved ‘BYE Meg the love of my life won’t you please be with me?!’He said in a mocking tone, knowing fully well be and Meg we’re together.
‘DREAM ON DICK!’ She shouted.
‘Oh I will’ he replied fading into the darkness. She turned to me and gave me a peck on the lips.
‘God, let’s get inside!’ She smiled, we walked towards the cafe as we were walking along the window, I saw a girl our age, sitting there, she looked so ill. In a haunting beautiful way.
‘What a tramp.’ Meg stated and laughed at herself.
‘Hmm, what did you say?’ I didn’t hear her I was busy looking at this girl.
‘Her have you seen her, Tramp’ She gave the girl the evils and smiled at me. I hit her shoulder lightly.
‘Don't be a bitch Meg, do you honestly think she would be here 11 at night if there wasn't something wrong. She stared at me blankly, and then burst into laughter. I am so fed up of her not taking me seriously.
‘Deep!’ she said in between breaths. I rolled my eyes as we walked into the café, the waitress came up and took us to our booth right next to the girls I sat in the seat opposite her so I could look over Meg’s shoulder and study this mysterious character. She looked so sad, I don’t know why but I found her attractive although she did look a little bit trampy. I slowly came out of my trance and all I could hear was Meg yapping away at how her mum won’t let her paint her room red.
‘Shut up Meg please.’ She stopped talking immediately. Her face was completely shocked, I have never spoken to her like that before.
‘What did you just say to me?’ Then she looked at my eyes and glanced behind her, her head shot back and forth, her face disgusted. ‘HER?! YOU ARE SERIOUSLY CHECKING HER OUT?!’
‘Meg, please’ I begged I really liked her, I didn’t mean to check out this girl she was just so mesmerising. I went to hold her hand, but I couldn’t help to see the other girl’s reaction, Meg pulled her hand away. The girl smiled to herself got up and went to the toilet. Meg got up and followed her.
‘MEG NO.’ I shouted, and old man got up
‘Come on you two, I’m sure it will all blow over. I think you should leave that young lady alone Meg is that your name? Anyway she looks like she’s not in the nest way’ the old man said, nice and calmly.
‘Yeah, listen to him Meg’ I said Meg stopped and turned around .
‘Whatever you can have that dirty tramp, I am going to Mike’s house’ I knew she was doing it to try and make me jealous but it didn’t work I just smiled and said;
‘Ok, fuck off then.’ She stopped and stared at me blankly.
‘What?’
‘I said fuck off, and have fun at Mike’s. Don’t come back to me when he breaks your heart’
Meg let out a shaky sigh and her eyes welled up, and then she stormed out of the café, I went and sat back in my booth and the girl came back and sat in my booth, and she pulled her hood down to reveal her face.
"Hi" she said and smiled ‘are you alright?’
