"Can you please now stand for the bride." That was my cue.
The vast grand doors open and all our family and friends turn to face the doorway. The pianist starts to play the slow processional music, as my bridesmaids and flower girls walk down the aisle in front. They're holding Little Red Riding Hood baskets, filled with red petals, in which they threw down. 'The most emotional moment is when the bride walks down the aisle to meet her groom', my mum said this morning. How cliché. The most emotional wedding guest is her.
My grand entrance was any moment from...now. My dad escorted me and we walked slowly, steady, gentle, smooth and flowing so that we could take our time walking down the aisle, taking steps with the romantic song Kissing You by Des'ree. Being the centre of attention was a rare thing for me, and now here I was--being the centre of attention. I made sure to make it last, as this was just a one off. This was the first moment everyone saw me in my dress, and how beautiful I looked. My flowers were in my right hand, while my left hand was interlocked with my dad's. Everything was pitch perfect and new; from my nails to my dress. It's probably the largest dress I'd ever worn and ever will wear. All my emotions are heightened to the very top and I really want to enjoy every second of this wonderful experience.
We continue walking until we reached Enrique- my soon to be husband. He's standing next to his best friend and best man- Pablo. My maid of honour coincidentally happened to be my best friends too-- Ellen. Ellen's surname is her name spelt backwards. Nelle. I often teased her about it, and it drove her nuts. My dad 'gives me away' and lifts my veil to kiss my forehead, and leaves Enrique and I to stand before the priest.
"I will start with the words given to me by the bride and groom. 'One man's overlooked blessing is another man's happily ever after. Man and Woman are to be best friends for life as husband and wife.'
"Dearly beloved, we are here today to witness the marriage of Rochelle Katherine Penelope Hope Williams and Enrique Theo Maxwell Lawrence. To join together this Man and Woman in holy matrimony... which is commended to be honourable among all men... if any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together- let them speak now or forever hold their peace."
There's a short silence before the priest carries on speaking.
"Rochelle Katherine Penelope Hope Williams and Enrique Theo Maxwell Lawrence, as you stand here today, I remind you of the serious nature of the relationship you are about to enter...today, your wedding day is one brief day in time, and although your vows are spoken in a matter of minutes, they are promises that will last a lifetime... You are going to speak these words to each other now, whilst putting the ring in each others' fingers."
Enrique and I turn to face each other. A muscle hurting grin is spread across his face.
He holds my right hand and repeats what the priest said, ring in his hand. "I Enrique Theo Maxwell Lawrence take you, Rochelle Katherine Penelope Hope Williams for my lawful wife to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part." I try my best to hold back the tears that well in my eyes, but it gets the better of me. A few 'aws' and sniffles emanate from the guests. I wipe the tears from my face, before it ruined my make- up. Enrique slips the ring on my wedding finger whilst I minutely gawp. Its bright shine replicates the one on the stained galls windows of the Church.
I hold his right hand too and likewise did and said the same thing. "I Rochelle Katherine Penelope Hope Williams take you, Enrique Theo Maxwell Lawrence for my lawful husband to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part." I then slip the ring through is wedding finger.
"...Together, you are best friends for life, as husband and wife. I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." the priest says, smiling. Cheers, whistles and claps erupt from the audience, as Enrique kissed me. His hands slide down to my waist, while I wrap mine around his neck. The kiss was fierce, yet soft. It was like we were the only two people there before I instantly remembered where I was, and abruptly broke apart from him. It took him by surprise, but he still smiled.
"Here comes Mr and Mrs Lawrence!"
Yet another round of applause and whistles erupt as red petals fly all over the place. The photographer snaps away, and occasionally, there's flash. We're both smiling uncontrollably as we walk back down the aisle together as Mr and Mrs Lawrence. As we pass my half brother, Tyrell, he slaps Enrique on his back as he envelopes him in a manly hug.
"Congratulations!" Tyrell says.
We say our thank you and head outside, the guests following prompt shortly behind. When we're outside, two white wedding horses and a carriage await us upon our arrival.
"You look beautiful." he said, holding the hem of my dress as I walk down the steps. It's not easy to walk down steps with six inch heels and a vast dress.
"You're looking striking." I say, reaching the ground. He's still holding my dress as he helps me get in the carriage. After that, he gets in too, shutting the door behind him.
After a few snaps, the driver encourages the horses to start galloping away to the reception venue, to party, celebrate and party some more. Our family and friends go to the reception with other modes of transport, and are going to be joined by the other guests. Enrique holds my hands and says;
"This is the best day of my life."
Interlocking my hands with his, I make eye contact and say the obvious. "This is the best day of my life too. I wouldn't change the world for it, even if it meant winning a million pounds, because all I want and need is you."
"Well guess what? All I need is you, and I'm glad to have you in my life. I would kiss you, but... you know why."
I chuckle. "Don't worry, I know why."
"A kiss on the cheek for now?"
"Yeah, I suppose that'll do temporarily." I reply.
He leans towards me and places a kiss on my right cheek for a little longer than necessary, but I don't mind. Then he whispers in my ear;
"I love you."
