Delta's POV 🐍
-
Close to those last few days of school Archie was elected our class president, until the Sheriff came in on his speech and arrested him for the murder of Cassidy Bullock.
All anyone could think was 'Why would Archie kill a man?' But all I could think was 'He has no motive to kill a man. Why is this happening to him.'
Yeah Archie has done some stupid things, but even after me and him made up. He still doesn't seem like the right person to kill a man.
Archie calmed to have heard the shot, but actually didn't do it.
All summer I've been trying to take my mind off these last few trials for Archies case. I spent a lot of time with SweetPea. We explored a lot more of Riverdale that I never really knew about, but now that Archies trial is actually here, I'm stressed.
I sat in the courtroom next to SweetPea. I'm surprised he actually came. Considering how much he's wanted to kill Archie a few months ago.
Suddenly Ms. Wright stands up to start specking.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the evidence and testimony that was presented in this court tell a dark story. That Mr. Andrews has a history of violent behavior." I literally rolled my eyes at this lady.
"That he started not one, but two masked vigilante groups. That he assaulted an innocent boy who was helpless with two broken legs. That he went "wilding" in the Southside of town and threatened to shoot a young man in the face." SweetPea tensed up and squeezed my hand.
"That while partying with his friends in the town of Shadow Lake, Mr. Andrews ran into the woods and shot the victim, Cassidy Bullock, point-blank in the head." She paused for a minute looking around the room.
"Now Mr. Andrews claims that it was his girlfriend's father's doorman who shot Mr. Bullock. A shot Mr. Andrews claims to have heard, but not seen." She looks back at Archie as Archie is just looking down in the chair.
"Who knows the truth of what happened that terrible night in the woods near Shadow Lake? I'll tell you who. That man. Archie Andrews may be a varsity athlete and he may be a sensitive musician." She pointed at Archie.
"But he is also... A cold-blooded... Killer." She said slowly walking back to her seat just staring Archie down.
Mrs. Andrews stands up. Wow someone actually good. She stares Ms. Wright down as she walks to the middle of the room.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we know, for a fact, that Archie Andrews constantly puts the needs of others ahead of his own. We know he helped to solve the murder of Jason Blossom." She said all that played back in my mind was that night we watched the video in Archies Garage.
"We know that he offered both friends and enemies shelter when they had nowhere else to stay." Me remembering that morning at Archies house.
"We know that he punched through a river of ice to save the life of his classmate Cheryl Blossom." I remembered that cold day on Sweet Water river.
"Let me remind you that there were no witnesses to the actual killing. There was no murder weapon. There was no motive. At the end of the day, all the prosecution has is cloudy testimony from unreliable people. Now, it is my solemn duty as a mother to protect my son. But as an attorney, it's my duty to adhere to the facts, to the evidence. There is nothing here that proves that Archie Andrews is anything less than an innocent boy." She says specking you the jury.
"Thank you." She says before taking her seat again.
"Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, the charge is first-degree murder. You may retire to begin your deliberations." Everyone stands up in the courtroom.
-
Later the Judge called everyone back into the courtroom.
"The jury is still deliberating, but I've dismissed them." Everyone gasps in just a little bit of annoyance.
"They're sequestered and I've instructed them not to read anything about this case, nor to discuss it with anyone. We'll reconvene Tuesday morning after Labor Day." Everyone looks around at each other.
-
Later that afternoon I was at the serpents campsite. I walked out of the trailer and saw my dad and Archie.
"Hey dad. Hey Archie..." I said questionable kinda confused.
"Might be my best one." Dad said jokingly. I looked over to see him giving Archie a serpent tattoo.
"Looks good, dad." I said with a smile looking at Archie as well. I folded my arms.
"When do you want me to do your again, huh." My dad said looking at me. I looked down at my arm that I had my serpent tattoo on before. I never got it redone because I didn't get my cast off till mid July.
"Maybe soon." I said with a smile I suddenly see Jughead, SweetPea, and Fangs walking towards us.
"Hey, boy, come have a look. Might be my best one yet." Dad says finishing up the tattoo on Archies arm.
SweetPea stops for a second and grabs my shoulders.
"I'll see you in a little bit, but for now Fangs and are are doing some stuff." He says. "It's ok, as long as it is later." I said with a smile. He kissed my lips real quick before walking off to follow Fangs.
"Well, how does it feel to be an honorary Serpent?" Jughead takes a seat in one of the chairs.
"Feels pretty savage, Jug." He says with a smile. Jughead pauses for a minute.
"Archie, the first thing I learned at Southside High was that you need to roll with a crew to survive. There are gonna be Serpents in juvenile detention. Find 'em. Sit with them. That tattoo is gonna get you in. But it's also gonna get you protected." Archie looks up at Jughead.
Yeah, Jughead's right. Up to a point. That Serpent ink will help keep your body safe but you still gotta worry about protecting this, eh?" He says point to his head.
"I speak from experience, all right? Your mind is the first thing that goes when you're locked up. If you can keep your head on straight, you can get through anything. You just..." he pauses for a moment and looks around before getting closer to Archie.
You gotta keep your wits about you, Red." Archies nods his head. Archie looks at the tattoo and smiles at dad. Before he hits his shoulder.
"Maybe a jacket soon." I said looking at him and laughing.
