People often wonder what does a poet or writer have in common with yoga? To me writing is a way to reflect upon our lives with meaning. Writing is self-knowledge and yoga is not just about "the asanas" (physical postures), it's about finding the self within us.
Isn't it true that when we read a beautiful poem is as if it talked to our souls? As if it somehow unlocked within us something we weren't aware of? So yoga and writing go hand on hand.
Writing daily self reflections help us live in the moment and only then we feel the union between us, the universe and all creation. Writing is self-acceptance, yoga and writing or any sort of creative art it's the means to reflection. To deepen our quality of attention, meditation, another medium that some can use as their journey to self discovery.
Yoga=Union; and to be devoted to yoga gives us a quieter mind, teaches us how to slow down, teaches us the humbleness within each of us and the unity within all others and every thing that surrounds us. Only when we finally accept ourselves as we are, we let go of our ego, judgements, we start feeling so pure yet so small.
Letting it all go with each breath we take and each breath we let go...
So for me yoga has opened an enormous channel of creativity. I am truly embracing the journey and process, not really focusing any longer on "the goal". Yoga moves me into creative exploration, self-expression, meditation. After all...What is a poet?
We are who translate the birds, the universe, the moon, the stars. We must be aware, look, listen, see outside and yet within us so we may translate such an emotion in paper.
Yoga has change not just my life, but the life of many others. It hasn't or it won't stop changing me. It has deepen my freedom to express myself without fears from judgment. Just to simply be... me, you, us.
It's lovely! While I am doing my asanas in solitude, I now feel as within my body I can channel energy which becomes my muse for a new line to write or piano piece to play. This is my personal reflection of the connection between yoga and any form of art, specially poetry, being a writer. I am so thankful yet so little. Namaste :)
