In my DNA
The virus had infected everyone, everyone but the three who remain. The government had fled the disaster and are in an unknown location; those who stayed were killed and transformed.
The city was in ruins, fires starting everywhere, buildings collapsed, gas pipes leaking, cars piled on top of one another, windshields broken and blood splattered all over the place. The city smelt of smoke and sewage water. There was always the lingering smell of rotten flesh and blood around.
There were bloodthirsty, meat ripping Nightstalkers all around; they had invaded every part of the city, hungry for more. It had been weeks since Kirsty had seen her family; she was now alone in the wrecked subway hiding from the terrors above. Brooks and Lea had gone out to look for food and metal. Kirsty was in her area of the damaged train, the lights were flickering and there was water dripping down from the ceiling. Lea aged 15. Brooks aged 16. Kirsty aged 15.
The Nightstalkers were skeletons, bits of dried up skin hanging from their remains, their eyes turned into a violent purple. What was left of their clothing was clinging on to their broken bones. Their words were inaudible. There was dried blood splattered all over them, a blue goo seeped out of their mouths, they had razor-sharp teeth. Nightstalkers were also exceptionally strong making them more terrifying than ever.
Kirsty, Lea and Brooks wanted to escape, they were in urgent need of fixing the time machine. They had travelled together from Portland to New York as young geniuses with creative minds, they had built the first time machine. Kirsty, Lea and Brook"s families were in Portland, Oregon, 1989. They had travelled into the future, it was 2045 in New York City.
They were almost done fixing the machine, they just needed to create a special fuel that would last them for the journey back to Portland. They spent months trying to create the fuel with the bare minimum but luckily it was enough. Kirsty, Lea and Brooks stepped into the time machine, they set the controls and were headed off to Portland 1985.
As they stepped out of the time machine, it seemed like nothing had changed. They made their way over to the science lab to talk about their adventures in New York and what had happened but something didn't feel quite right.
It had been 3 days since they came back from New York, they were in the lab when things started to get weird. Brook and Lea were feeling unwell, so they decided to head home for the day, Kirsty thought it was the side effects of time travel, as she had been feeling a little unwell too. The next day Brook came in the next day looking more sick and tired but that isn't all that Kirsty recognised, Brooks left eye was purple. Lea came in 15 minutes later looking like Brook but both of her eyes were purple. Kirsty started to realise what was going on. Kirsty fled the building and placed the lab on lockdown, evacuating everybody inside except for Brooks and Lea. She explained to everyone what was going on and why they fled, she contacted the mayor to quarantine whoever made contact with Brooks and Lea as they had the virus.
The city was in chaos, some hadn't left their home in days, stores were being emptied, the streets were so quiet it was like walking through a ghost town. Kirsty was worried, did she have the virus too? Was she going to become a night stalker? How did Brook and Lea catch the virus if they weren't bitten by Nightstalkers? Kirsty had a lot to think about in her quarantine cell.
It was a few days before Kirsty was released from quarantine, she had tested negative for the virus and was trying to figure out how. She had been with Brooks and Lea in the Time machine, in the lab with them for 2 days yet she hadn't caught the virus but those who spent merely 5 seconds with them had? They weren't even bitten yet they tested positive. Kirsty ran down to the quarantine and put her protective coverall on before entering the cells. She took some of the DNA used in the testing for the virus and compared it to her own.
She had something extra in her DNA making her immune. She drew some more blood and started to make an antidote. Kirsty was in her lab for hours, testing the antidote on the sample DNA she took from the quarantine centre. It had been 2 days of trial and error but Kirsty had done it, she had created the antidote for the virus but did she have enough?
