Alice walked down the corridor to her classroom. She didn't know what to expect from today, but she surely didn't expect to see her best friend, Jack missing from the room. She slowly walked over to his seat, pondering where he could be. The teacher called over to her in her usual sweet voice.
"Alice? Jack isn't here today. He's sick."
She sighed with relief. As long as he wasn't badly hurt, then she was happy. She sat in her desk, which was next to Jack's. Alice decided that she'd go see him once school had finished. Her first action was to take out her books for the morning. She piled them up neatly on her desk, until they were knocked off. Catherine had just walked past, and swiped her hand across Alice's desk. She smirked and laughed as she passed.
"Have fun with those books, bitch. If only school permitted fights, cos then I'd beat your small ass. You won't get boys with that thing."
Alice began to mumble.
"At least I have some common decency... And I've had boyfriends."
Catherine blew her off and carried on walking. Alice was scooping up her books from the floor, and placing them back on her desk. She waited until nobody was looking, and ran her hands over her butt. It really was small, smaller than all the other girls. But she hated being called out for it. She sat back on her chair and waited, as she checked the time. 8.45. Time for registration. The teacher went through everyone's names, and all the kids responded (except Jack due to his absence). Then everyone headed off for their morning lessons. Alice had Art first thing. She liked Art, it was something she was good at and enjoyed doing. She also enjoyed it cos Jack was in that class, but that was besides the point. She walked into the art room. Alice was always first to arrive to Art. She took her seat and got out her sketchbook. Her Art teacher came over to her, smiling as he usually did.
"Morning Alice! Early as usual. You can get straight on with the work we were doing last lesson. Criteria is on the board." He pointed at the projector screen.
Alice nodded. "Thank you. Jack isn't here today, just to warn you."
"Ah, thanks. Was just wondering, cos you two walk in together."
The teacher smiled. His name was Mr. Matthews, and he was friendly. Out of all the teachers, he had given out the least detentions. In fact, he'd only given one.
Alice stayed quiet all lesson, and even for the rest of the day. At 4 o'clock, she went towards Jack's house. She knocked as she stood in front of the door, which had several locks and a brown paint coat. Jack's mother opened the door, and smiled at the sight of Alice. "Hey there Alice! It's been a while. How have you been?"
"I've been good, thank you. I heard Jack was sick, so I brought some candy and chocolate for him. And I was wondering if I could stay for a bit? Just to spend some time with him?"
His mother nodded, and let her in. Alice walked up the stairs to Jack's room, and knocked on the door. "Jack? You in there?"
A couple coughs came through the door.
"Y-yes." The voice sounded hoarse.
Alice opened the door slowly, peeking her head through. Jack looked rather pale and sickly.
Alice spoke with a lot of confidence and energy. "'Sup, Jack!" She bounced into the room and onto the bed, hugging Jack. "I brought a shit ton of candy and chocolates for us. We better split them fairly. You take more than Your share, and I'll bite you."
He smirked as she said this. "I wouldn't oppose to you biting me."
Jack and Alice had been friends for years now. They were inseparable, and knew practically everything about each other. They'd been through a lot of bumps, but they were so close they didn't split away.
"Uh, before you split the chocolates..." Jack began to speak, stammering and struggling to form words. "Could you maybe let me... Get properly dressed?" He pulled the covers of the bed over him a bit more. Alice only just noticed him missing a shirt, and blushed.
"O-oh! Sorry!" She darted out the room and shut the door. She sighed deeply. She didn't know what to do. She felt like she was torturing him, but she wanted to keep being this way. She just wanted to be friends with him...
One week before, Jack had confessed his undying love for Alice. But she didn't feel the same, so turned him down. He'd been slightly off ever since.
Inside the room, Jack put on some clothes. After he invited Alice in, they both played video games and chatted and ate all the candy and chocolate, laughing and smiling the whole time. Alice finally left and set off for home, and Jack closed the door behind her. As soon as he returned to his room, he laid down on his bed...
And he cried until his eyes ran dry.
