I looked up at him for the last time before he left. We were at the train station that would bring him to the plane strip that would fly over to England so he could be stationed with the 107th.

"I'm coming back Allie." He told me. His arms were around my waist and mine were locked behind his neck. I stood on my tip-toes and kissed him.

"You promise?"

"I promise. We're getting married after this, rememeber?"

"I remember. If you don't come back, or write, I'm going over there to get you." I teased him, not knowing that I would soon be heading over there myself anyway.

He kissed me one last time before boarding the train. Once the train was out of sight I headed back to work.

Me and Howard Stark were working on an AI system that we were hoping to name JARVIS, if we ever got it to work. Howard had been working on a super soldier serum as well and would be putting it into action in a few weeks.

I headed to his workshop and found the usual band playing on the side. He always prefered live music. His head was burried in . . . something. Pretty sure it was another weapon prototype.

I walked over to my table and started working on the codes for JARVIS. "I didn't notice that you were here Miss Angeline-Barnes." Howard commented when he paused.

I swivled in my chair and saw that he was covered in oil. "Bucky left today." I told him.

"He'll be back. You shouldn't worry about him. Did you ever finish with that vibranium?"

I stood up and picked my project up from the shelf it was displayed on. "One vibranium shield that will probably just sit here and never be used, complete."

"What makes you say that it'll never be used?" Howard asked me, setting down his wrench.

"Because of what you said when I started working with the vibranium, and I quote," I cleared my throat for extra effect. "'That's the only stuff we have, be careful with it.' Plus, people barely use these things anymore."

"Then why's you make a shield with it?" Howard challenged.

I shrugged, "Felt like the right thing to make. Let's just call it a gut feeling." I got back to work and so did Howard.

Time passed. Howard finished making the serum for the Super Soldier program. He helped me with JARVIS. I helped him with a few new weapon designs.

He was using the serum today and I was in the back, finishing up on JARVIS. All the lights flashed out for a moment before eventually coming back on. That was to be expected with anything Howard made.

A gun shot fired. I jumped up and rushed out to see the lab in total disarry with people running around trying to figure out what to do. A dead body lay near the stairs. I ran over to Howard. "What happened?!"

"Someone planted a bomb in the viewing box and ran out with the last vile of the serum. They shot the doctor before they ran. Agent Carter and Steve ran after him."

I helped clean up and Steve came back eventually with his story of the vile breaking and they guy saying 'Hail HYDRA' before killing himself. Me and Howard looked over the sub the guy had been using.

The closet thing we had to that technology was JARVIS; I still hadn't completed him yet. The two of us headed over seas to the front lines. We helped with weapons and figuring out what they were making in their bases.

Steve came over and tried to lift the spirits of the men who just got back. I still couldn't get the Colonel Phillips to tell me where Bucky was. That night, he came into my tent with a letter. "I'm sorry Allie." He said before leaving.

I opened the letter and started crying. Bucky was MIA. Either dead or captured by HYDRA. Both were basically the same thing. I was to be sent back to the states the next day. I didn't sleep that night.

I didn't notice that Stark was gone for part of the evening either. There was only one thing I thought of. Bucky. I was never able to tell him. I'm pregnent.

I found out a month after he left. The baby was due in 4 months. Stark was the only one who knew. Bucky would never know. Our kid would grow up never knowing their father.

The morning sun poked through the flaps in my tent. I didn't eat. I got dressed and kept workng on JARVIS. That was the only project that I had with me.

There was a commotion outside. I ignored it and kept working, I was so close. One part would finally work, and another would practically fal apart.

"Let's hear it for Captain America!" Someone shouted. It had been so long since I'd heard his voice that I almost didn't recognize it. I pulled back the flap. Everyone was crouded around people. They split when the saw me. In the center of the croud was Steve . . . and Bucky.

"Bucky?" My voice was hoarse and my eyes were bloodshot. He turned at the sound of his name. We both stared at eachother for a moment. I closed the gap between us and hugged him, burying my head in his chest.

"Allie?" He seemed confused.

With happy tears in my eyes, I looked up at him. "I'm here Bucky, I came over with Howard. You're alive." I said the last part to myself for the most part. I dragged Bucky over to the medical tent. One of the nurses tended to him and I sat beside him.

The nurse left us and pulled the curtains closed. I climbed up on the bed and hugged Bucky. He returned the hug and I leaned my head up to whisper in his ear. "I'm pregnent Buck."

It took a moment for that to click for him. "I'm due in four months, heading back to the States tonight."

"Have you named the little squirt yet?" He asked, playing with my hair.

"I was hoping to ask if you had any ideas."

"Beatrice."

"What about for a boy?" I asked him. I was so glad he wasn't dead.

"James of course."

"So you get a child named after you but not me?" I teased.

"Fine, Alice for a girl. Are you sure you have to leave?"

"Yes, it won't work well to raise a child on the front lines of a war. Don't worry, I'll write. Plus I've got access to Stark's money if I need it."

I left that evening. For the next 4 months I wrote Bucky regularly. I was staying with my mother for now. When I went into labor, she drove me to the hospital.

That was the day that two things happened. I birthed two wonderful children, James Jackson and Beatrice Ruby. I also died in childbirth.

My children were left for my mother to take care of them. I had gotten a letter from Steve last week, Bucky had died on a mission. My children would never know either of their parents.

Little did I know, they would both meet their father and uncle later in life. Captain America. They would be able to say that their uncle was Captain America. I died thinking of Bucky. He would be waiting for me, or so I thought. It would be another century or so before I would see him again.
