'Today is another day'.
That's the exact thought I have every single day after I wake up. I knew that there was going to be nothing special about today, just like any other day. Opening up my eyes to the same old room in the same old bed, my small Samsung music speaker playing the same old song I hear everyday. Stretching my 16 year old body, I come to a deep realisation as to what today actually means to me. After 6 weeks of a 'well deserved' summer holidays, it was finally time to return to the normality of school. But that's exactly what I mean: normality.
My name, Brandon Wilson, is known mostly around the school as the boy who is always doing unbelievably fun things with his family. And everybody hears correctly. I'm out going on holidays to places all over the world, doing fun activities out in the city or just meeting world-famous celebrities. Sure people are jealous of my life, but deep down, it's not what I want. I'm sure most, if not, everybody wishes for more in their life. Whether it be money, love or fame, people want more. And the thing is with me, it's the same, but different at the same time. My ultimate dream is to be unique and different from every other human being on the planet. By imagining every person on the planet having their own characteristics, everybody would be unique and not all the same. So when people state they know me as the guy who's always doing fun things that nobody in my school have ever come close to doing, that's just it. Other people on the planet have done what I've done, which doesn't make me special, just rare. And that's my secret.
Getting out of bed an hour and a half before the first bell to rollcall, the sunlight streamed through the blinds covering the window. Craning my neck to stretch, I switch off my alarm clock, still jingling the same annoying song that I hear every morning. After getting dressed into the bland, white school uniform, I pack my school bag full of the books needed for the day before meeting my family at the dining table, cereal, bowls, spoons and milk stacked on it. I take my place and greet them.
My mother, the shortest in our family of 4, wore her work uniform belonging to the local mall. Her light brown hair brushed and tied, her hazel-coloured eyes providing a sense of happiness to anyone looking into them. My father sat next to her, the few remining hairs on his head covered by a cap. He wore glasses and his pyjamas, considering the fact he just came off night-shift from his job as a security guard in Sydney. And my brother, Zac, across from me, also in his uniform, looked similar to me, his hair slightly lighter than my short brown hair. Being 2 years younger than me, the pair of us had similar sized friend groups, although us being opposites in our interests. I was always the one interested in books and technology, and he was quite the sports addict.
"Good morning, Brandon," Mum greeted me. "Good morning," responding back to her, smiling at the three of them. After pouring myself a bowl of corn flakes and adding milk to the bowel, the conversation begins about school. "Excited for your first day?" Dad asked eagerly. I shrugged, trying to hide the idea that something was bothering me. "Yeah I guess. Mainly just seeing my friends again," I responded, having something to look forward to today. I hadn't seen any of my friends all holiday. Remembering the faces of Imogen, Barrett, Cylus and others, I smiled. "Jut remember though, Year 11 is a big year. Got to start studying," Mum states to me. She's always pushing me us to do well in school, and now I'm in Year 11, everything gets even more real. I know studying is best to do well, but sometimes it just feels so unbelievably stressful, even thinking about it hurts your brain.
Breakfast ends shortly after, the conversation mainly focusing on the study routine that should be implemented. Straight after, I brush my teeth, eliminating the morning/sleep from my mouth and place the clear, thin contact lenses onto my blue "ocean" eyes. Zac and I grab our bags and head outside, preparing to walk to school. I have my P's and own my own white Mitsubishi Lancer, although school's only 20 minutes walk. Another popular thing known about me is the fact that my family's next door neighbour is in fact my cousins, aunty and uncle, I kid you not. We knock on the door, letting our cousins know it's time to walk before they appear through the door. There's Chloe, an attractive blonde girl known at school as a popular girl who's always friendly, being my age, and Brittney, also blonde and taller than Chloe, being Zac's name. Both girls are popular for their contribution to gymnastics, both being incredible at the sport.
Before long, we leave the houses and start to walk to school. It's always the same walk to the same school. Nothing exciting. Nothing at all. And that is where our story begins.
