It's 4 in the morning, it's her birthday.
He wakes up. Half conscious
He turns on his phone screen, half conscious
"Happy Birthday" he says as he waits.
he got used to the waiting. She was a busy person.
Always doing something, Always on the move.
She appears. She reads his message. She doesn't reply.
He waits. She's gone. She left.
He texts again.
His fingers furiously typing away.
He wants to be heard
He wants to be seen.
He doesn't want to be ignored.
She appears.
She responds.
"no one asked you to."
He stops.
His half concious self jolts awake.
She wasn't wrong
He assumed that texting her would make her happier
He assumed that she would enjoy his company.
He assumed that she would like the surprise.
Nobody asked him to stay up at 4
Nobody asked him to text her
Nobody asked him to invest time in her.
Nobody but himself.
He did not see the point in doing so anymore.
She doesn't care.
She will never care
The phone screen blackens
His heart darkens
His love fading away.
Warm memories turned cold.
Warm emotions turned sour
Warm hearts turned bitter.
