*Zayn’s Point Of View*
“So you liked our performance, ay?”
I smiled at Jessica across from the table. We were now sat at a Nando’s and waiting for the waiter to bring us our order. It feels like old times, only we aren’t “together” now. But we were getting along, which was more than I could ask for from her.
“I did. I think they did well by pairing you guys together… Just make me a promise, please, Zayn?”
“Erm... sure.”
“Don’t keep singing just for me. Do it for you too, you deserve it. And if you and the boys don’t make it far, which I doubt will happen, just stay together. You never know what the future holds, and I would hate to see such great talent thrown away. You’re so happy on stage, and I’m honored to know I was your motivation to get up there and audition. I wish it was on better terms, but we can’t change the past now. Anyway, that’s a different story… I just wanted you to know that I believe in you and those friends of yours 110 percent! Just don’t stop what you guys are doing.”
She gave me a weak smile and I could have sworn I saw I saw her eyes water a bit; like she was on the edge of crying, but held it back. I reached my hand across the table and grabbed hers.
“Jessica… I can’t keep that promise. I’m sorry, but you’re my ONLY reason to sing. I have never sung in front of anybody but my parents ever, until you showed up. I still remember the first I sung to you,” I let out a little laugh, and so did she. We both remembered, “I wanted you to be my girlfriend more than anything at that moment. And I kept thinking to myself “How am I ever going to get her to say yes?” I couldn’t just come out and ask you, that’s too normal. And believe me, you are far from normal—“
“HEY! That’s not very nice!” She said and jerked her hand away.
I giggled at the fact she thought I meant that in a bad way, “I didn’t mean it like that. Just listen and let me explain.”
“Fine... Go on.” She nodded her head to get me to continue.
“Okay well, what I meant by you’re not normal is, well… you’re just different. There’s no other way to put it. You’re sweeter than any other girl I have ever dated, or known. You’re prettier, you’re honest, you’re supportive, you’re fun, you have a great sense of humor, and you don’t let silly things bother you. But most of all, you make me the happiest I’ve ever been. I messed up, I know. But I want you to know that whatever happens between us, I’m not letting you go. Whether we’re just friends, or we’re together, I’m not going anywhere. I can promise you that. I miss you more than you know, but I know we’re just friends so I’m not going to push on it, no matter how much I want to. Just know that I’m not giving up you and me.”
She stared at me blankly like she couldn’t find the words to say. I could tell she was completely shocked and didn’t know how to react. She just gave me a half smile, and said “I’m not that hungry, can we go?”
