{^^That's what Alex looks like.^^}

"Damn. Running was hard. Maybe I should quit smoking so much," I thought to myself. Basically, I'll give you a rundown of what happened. It was early morning in California. I had just gotten up to make breakfast when my parents came downstairs. "Hi, mom! Hey, dad," I said giving them each a hug.

                           "Hey Kiddo," my dad said. He looked a bit off. Like maybe something was wrong. My mom's eyes were red and swollen. As if she had been crying. She looked at me and glanced down. "Get out," she said almost as a whisper.

                           "I'm sorry? What?" I asked not knowing what was happening. She yelled it the next time. "GET OUT!" She screamed. "GET OUT!!" My dad tried to talk to her in a calming voice. What had I done? What was going on?? Suddenly I realized what she was holding. It was a simple lighter. She flipped it open and started to lean down. "Get out or you'll burn with the rest of us." I just stood there until my father pushed me out and slammed the door. All of a sudden I could smell smoke. Before anything could happen, or I could get blamed, I ran. All the way to the train yard. I hopped on a train, not knowing where I was going.

                         As I walked the streets of the rusty old town, I glanced to my left and saw a gas station. I walked in deciding to get some smokes. I went to the back grabbing a few things and stuffing them in my pockets. "Can I help you?" I heard from behind me. I turned around startled.

"I- uh-" He cut me off. "You know stealing doesn't just hurt you. It hurts me too." He did a goofy grimace and held his chest where his heart was. "Just, ouch, my heart man." I laughed and shrugged, pulling the things out of my pocket. "So, what's your name Mrs. theif?"

                  "Alex. And you?"

                      "Sodapop."
