The forest was in the largest bloom since the arrival of the Imperium, about five thousand years ago. The floor was moist, the leaves were lush green as they danced in the cool breeze and natural flora bloomed beautiful colours from all ends of the spectrum. The sky was covered in a nebula like cloud, strangling out the sun. Nightmarish screams bombarded the planet.
Deep in the forest, a small and pale tyranid - with a purple shell encasing it's long, jagged body, from head to tail - bounded over an eight foot tall, heavily armoured space marine duel wielding a bolt pistol in his left hand and a boltergun in his right hand. As the tyranid lunged over the marine, bolter fire dashed from the bolt pistol. Bullets pierced the tyranid's thick hide, spraying a purple liquid across the forest floor. The tyranid landed missing both it's back legs and half of its tail. The cloud grey space marine placed his bolt pistol on his back, just above his waist, while he through his boltergun back into both his hands. The tyranid squirmed on the floor, attempting to drag it's bloody body but was filled with five centimetre golden bullets from the space marines devastating, steel black boltergun.
"Kiss that, xeno scum," spat the space marine as he turned away from the nauseous corpse. As the space marine turned, he was greeted by a giant gene stealer tyranid looming over like a blasphemous curse but abruptly - as the gene stealer prepared a brutal strike - a giant grey dreadnought arm drove through the trees behind and grappled the tyranid. The dreadnought marched through the trees, firing a huge Gatling gun - launching one hundred millimetre explosive rounds. The gene stealer tyranid became paste against the the blossoming brown bark, as the dreadnought turned to the marine.
"Brother of old, Brother Urgara. What a relief it is to see you," exclaimed the space marine as he began to bow.
"Angus, you are not a guardsman anymore. We are equal, stand up and get ready to find more of these monsters. The hive is here," explained the dreadnought, chuckling at first but turning aggressive by the end. The space marine stood up immediately while the dreadnought marched back into the thick forest. Angus looked down at his giant boltergun, mesmerised by the shimmering, golden emblem of the Imperium that rested along the holy barrel. "I am still adjusting to this holy armour and status," stated Angus gleefully as he admired his boltergun and grey, ceremite armour. The dreadnought pivoted it's top half before exclaiming, "Then adjust to your duty brother, we are together till the end." Angus removed his helmet, revealing a young and rough face smiling.
"Thank you brother," he replied as he placed his helmet on his side.
The screams of the tyranid swarms echoed through the forest like a cancer, darting through the trees and piercing the minds of whoever heard the cries. Bolter fire and tank shells from loyalist astartes crashed through the air and Tyranids a like. "For the Emperor," the librarians shouted as they ejected bolts of midnight blue lightning from their palms. The Tyranids poured from out of the thick forests, flooding barricades of space marines and glancing tank armours. Gunships dived from above, raining eighty five calibre rounds like sand. The ground ripped open with every claw print and bullet that punished the muddy planet surface, puddles of blood slowly became rivers and piles of bullets became mountains with in minutes. Dreadnoughts marched to the front lines, standing sentinel like guard towers, while the space marines behind slashed fresh magazines of bullets into their holy guns as their machine spirits screamed in anger.
It was mid-day and things had quieted down, and most commanders were in buildings discussing battle tactics. On the front lines, the space marines on watch - alongside the sentinel dreadnoughts - stood watching intensely and proudly. Not a single marine slouched or moved and the dreadnoughts moved inches with every sound. All was silent but suddenly, Angus and Brother of old Urgara burst from the trees - sending every space marine into shock as they lifted their bolterguns rapidly. "Allies, allies," Angus bellowed as he ran towards the barricades.
"Angus," shouted one of the marines, "you made it brother," the marine exclaimed happily as he lowered his boltergun, "what happened," the marine questioned. Angus didn't even get behind the barricade before being bombarded with questions from the marines on watch.
"Louie, calm down. I can explain," started Angus as he dived over the concrete barriers, "I was attack by a group of those xenos and was cut off from the retreat. However, brother, I did fight them off and I killed all of them. My sensors did pick up a giant spike in psychic energy," explained Angus, his face dropped, "please tell me that was the librarians talking to the Emperor." Angus looked at Brother Louie before glancing at the other marines on watch.
"We have been entrenched here for several hours," stated Brother Louie as he raised a large steel grey arm on to Angus' shoulder, covering his Space Wolf chapter emblem, "Brother of Old, you are required in building Alpha two," Louie looked over at Brother Urgara before returning his gaze at Angus, "You are required to report back with the commander, Johnson ain't happy." Louie released Angus as he pivoted towards the encampment behind them.
Angus followed Brother Louie into the large encampment, passing towers of crates filled with munitions and explosives while marching by tech priests healing the holy weapons of the Emperor - such as bolterguns and plasma rifles. Fragrant vapours floated from the tech priests' workshop as golden incense burners swung from side to side and ominous hums of hymns of the God Emperor rippled through the air slowly. Deeper into the encampment, Angus saw an inquisitor towering over five librarians as he bellowed a speech of loyalty and order to the Emperor. Brother Louie marched inches in front of Angus, his boltergun in hand with his bolt pistol and chain sword by his side.
Finally, Angus and Brother Louie arrived at a giant pale grey, steel building with a Large B and two on it. "Welcome to Bravo two brother, good luck," exclaimed Brother Louie as he patted Angus on his backpack. Angus looked back at his friend in worry before slamming his right foot down and erecting his spine. From inside a low, booming voice ordered, "Soldier, enter!" Angus marched in, like he was still a Lieutenant of the Cadian Guard.
