The night is silent in the house of Stephanie. Its chilly as the air conditioner is on. The sound of the pipes in the walls creak as usual. The clock sings "Tick Tock" on beat as the night grows later.
Stephanie is a sophomore with
a pretty normal life. Shes not popular, but she does have a big group of friends. Each friend defined by their personality. Stephanie, who also went by Steph, was the girl who was always described as too nice.
Ella, Stephs closest friend, was described as grabby and always trying her best to make others laugh. Not to long ago the group got another member. Her name was Kayla. She was a year younger than all of them, considered very intelligent and self aware, and often got picked on for her beliefs.
Kayla beilieved in the paranormal,
and was a strong beiliver too. She didn't speak of it often, only if she was asked or wanted to chime in on occasion. She was just like the other girls, besides the fact she had many theories of spirits roaming the halls of the school.
One topic she spoke about
caught Stephs attention. It was something she called "Ghost Eyes". She explained that this is where ghosts lend you their eye sight so you can see something urgent or 'cool'. Kayla shared a few stories about how she'd dream about something, then it would happen. She said that was what she called "Ghost Eyes".
On this night, all Steph is doing
is relaxing. Since it was of course the weekend. Shes reading a superhero comic and listening to the quiet noises of the house. Shes babysitting her little brother, Noah, who is only seven and already asleep. She often checks on him, just to make sure he's ok.
Just as she was getting lost in
a dramatic scene, she heard tapping on her window. She glances out her window that has shiny spots on it from it being dark out yet so bright inside. Even though its blurry and seems a bit foggy, she was able to see who it was.
A sly smile spreads on her
pale face. Stephanie stands and runs her hand through her dark brown hair. The person at her window waits patiently, knowing she sees them. Steph makes her way to the window and pulls the lock to the right, a clicking sound following after.
The window then flys open,
letting in the cool spring air. The person climbs in and shuts the window loudly, locking it right after. It was Kayla, and she was holding a silver kitchen knife covered in a bit of rust.
"Kayla? What the.. Why do
you have a knife?", asked Steph curiously. She wasn't disturbed by her friend bringing a knife into her house, and this was because her and the group were always making trouble. She thought Kayla just wanted to play a prank or carve wood.
Kayla seems a bit nervous.
She's twisting a strand of her golden hair with her free hand. "I need to tel-", Kayla started, only to be cut off. Another tapping noise comes to Stephs window. She recognized the face, and was about to open it when Kayla grabbed her pulling them both to the ground.
"What the-", Kayla covers
Stephs mouth, pulling them both against the wall to be out of sight from the window. "We need to be quiet.", Kayla said in a calm whisper. Stephanies mind began racing. What did she mean 'We need to be quiet'?
The person at the window
knocks obnoxiously. Steph frees her mouth from Kayla's hand, "Why is Ella here too? Are you guys playing hide and seek or something again?" Of course Steph was only joking with Kayla, though it was a possibility the girls would do something so childish. If that was the case, then why did Kayla have a knife?
Kayla answers in the most
serious voice she's ever used, "No." Steph was hit with a wave of confusion and shuddered. She had never heard her friend sound so dark or suspicous. The knocking on the window gets harder, to the point were the glass seems as if it might crack.
"Seriously, whats going on,
Kayla?" The only response Steph got was silence. She was getting impatient. "Kayla, ans-", Steph started. "Ella's here to kill you.", said Kayla blunty. Just then the sound of glass shattering fills the room. Kayla shoves Stephanie into a corner and blocks Ella's access, weilding the sharp kitchen utensil in front of herself.
Ella quickly climbs through
the window holding her phone, her legs and left hand getting scrapped by sharp peices of the leftover window. "Kayla!", Ella yelled, huffing as if she had just run a marathon. She put her bleeding hand against the wall to balance herself as she quickly catches her breath. Her face expressed that she was angry. It was srunched and red, her eyes dim and hateful.
Kayla didn't move an inch,
sheilding Stehp. Now Stephanie was really begining to beilieve Ella was homicidal. She came from a poor family, had her own issues, got angry easily, and nothing seemed to go her way. Stephs eyes widen as she realizes her life could be in danger. She begins to panic as she knows her brother is only in the next room over.
Ella lunges at Kayla. Kayla
swings her knife but Ella was lucky to miss the strike. Ella shoves Kayla down harshly, making her crash into a dresser and drop the old knife. This was it. Kayla was on the floor, and Ella was still stanidng. Stephs protection had been taken down, and with such ease. She had to make a choice. Save herself, her brother, and Kayla or take the risk of Ella turning into a full mad woman.
"Stephanie!", Ella moves twords
her quickly. The rooms atmosphere takes a fast turn and grows quiet. Ella coughs, her bright green eyes wide. "I-I..", Steph starts as she pulls the now bloodied knife from Ella's stomach. She feels instant regret, backing away and dropping the utensil.
Ella falls just as the knife had.
Her phone rolls out of her hand. Stephanie begins to cry softly as she sees the phones bright screen. She gets closer to take a look, knowing her once good friend wouldn't be able to reach her now. She picks it up with care, seeing the phone on call. The caller is on mute, and the number is 911.
Steph freezes. She knows she
just messed up. She quickly spins around to see Kayla standing with the knife again, her pink lips making a terrifying grin. "I had another dream.", Kayla starts as she takes a step twords Stephanie. She shakes her head and she backs up, gripping the phone tightly.
"I dreamt Ella died." Her
smile only grows. "You died. Everyone in this house died.", Kayla's eyes are filled with a crazed look. Steph stutters out a response, "P-please.. Kayla....." Kayla points to her own head with the knife thats dripping with the fresh red liquid. Her lips spread only a bit as she says coldly, "Ghost Eyes."
