"Does this look fine?" Rose asked Phoebe.
"Yeah it looks amazing."
Rose took another look and knew her dream would come true. She looked down, held her hands together, and said to herself, "See Mom, this is what you wanted, I made it happen."
Rose smiled. She went outside her shop and took a deep breath. She smiled, being proud of herself for doing something she dreamt of accomplishing. Rose went back inside and looked around her shop, she suddenly heard a knock on the wall. A boy came in, it was Ian, her high school crush. She had trouble trying to understand her feelings for him, and just decided to be his friend. He said, "Hey you, I like what you did with the place, it's beautiful."
Rose was nervous, she wasn't sure if the place was even ready. She said, with a smile, "Thanks."
Suddenly Rose was unable to stand. She started to hyperventilate, leaving her to faint. Ian immediately ran to her to catch her from hitting the ground. He yelled for help. Phoebe ran in and saw Rose unconscious. She quickly called the ambulance.
Once the ambulance came, Ian and Phoebe asked to go as well. On the ride to the hospital, Ian asked Phoebe, "How could this have happened?"
It looked like he was blaming himself for not knowing what happened to Rose. Phoebe put her hand on his shoulder, "It wasn't your fault."
She paused and closed her eyes and continued, "It was bound to happen."
Releasing her grip, Phoebe wiped her face to stop herself from crying. He looked at her with shock. It made him more concerned knowing Rose could have some sort of disease. He said, "The reason why I came by her shop is because I wanted to ask her if she wanted to hang out. I wanted to get to know her better."
Taking a deep breath, he looked down, seeing Rose's silent face. He smiled, "To be honest, I've gotten used to seeing her smiling, but seeing her right now is very different."
"It is isn't it," Phoebe scoffed.
As they got to the hospital, the nurse asked Phoebe what the problem was at the front table. Phoebe explained everything to her. Ian followed the other nurses, as they took Rose to a room. He was told he wasn't allowed in, so he patiently waited, standing next to the door. He thought to himself, "Why Rose, why didn't you tell me before this happened."
He started to tear up. He wiped his face and saw Phoebe walk towards him. "Were you about to cry?" Phoebe asked.
He answered, "Not exactly, I was just thinking."
Phoebe looked at the door and sighed. She opened the door to peek through. She noticed Rose waking up. Phoebe called the nurses for help. Ian looked at Rose. He was relieved, ran into the room, and told her, "I'm so glad that you're okay."
Rose was confused, but was a little startled that he was waiting for her and telling her that he's happy to see her. She asked, "What are you doing here?"
"I was worried about you, I called your cousin, and she called the ambulance." Ian continued, "but I want you to explain to me what's happening?"
"And if I tell you it's bad," she said.
"Then I'll always be by your side, I'll help you through it," he told her.
Rose was starting to cry. Ian wiped her tears and kissed her on the forehead. Phoebe soon walked in with the nurse, Ms. Silva. She told Ian and Phoebe to step out of the room. Ms. Silva asked Rose a few questions. She left to get the results and soon came back to tell Phoebe that Rose has two weeks to live. "Unlike her mother, she has less to live, which is odd, but we'll see what will be the case," she explained.
"Would it be fine if I come by to see her every day?" Ian asked Ms. Silva.
"Well she will only stay for a couple of days for more results to come in, and will soon be excused, but yes you may come and visit her," Ms. Silva said.
The next day, Ian went to the hospital to visit Rose. She was asleep, so he waited until she woke up. He set up a little table with a couple of sandwiches and juice boxes with a little rose lying next to the food. Rose woke up seeing Ian looking at his phone. She silently said, "Good morning."
He quickly put down his phone and grabbed her hand. "Hey you, how are you feeling?" He asked her.
"I'm feeling better, you?" She said.
Once they started a conversation, Ian helped Rose sit up and gave her a sandwich. They continually asked each other questions. They would sometimes laugh, and Ian would tell her jokes. He did anything to make her laugh; he loved seeing her smile. As time passed by, it was already time for him to leave. Before Ian left, Ms. Silva told him that Rose will be able to go home. He smiled and left home. It was finally time for Rose to go home, Ian assisted Ms. Silva with Rose. Looking at Rose, Ian noticed she had to have an oxygen tank. He took a deep breath and put Rose in the car. He asked, "Do you want to surprise Phoebe or will meet you at your house?"
"Can I tell you something?" She asked.
"Go for it." He said.
"Well I don't exactly have a house; the shop was originally meant to be both a shop and an apartment for me." She explained.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," he said, "so do you want to surprise her at her house?"
Rose nodded and gave him the directions to Phoebe's house. They talked during the ride. When they got to Phoebe's house, Ian put Rose in her wheelchair and walked to the door. Ian let Rose knock on the door for the surprise. Once Phoebe opened the door, she started to cry seeing that she's doing better. She gave Rose a hug, and asked her what's going to happen next. Once they went inside Phoebe's house, Ian asked, "Where did Rose live before she bought the shop?"
There was a deep silence. Everyone glanced at each other. Suddenly, Phoebe said, "Here."
"Oh," Ian started, " so once she bought her shop, she was supposed to live there from now on."
"Yeah, but we didn't know how long it'll be until her symptoms started to get worse." Phoebe answered.
Ian sighed. Time flew by as they were talking about their plans and what is going to happen. As Ian and Rose went into the car, Ian's eyes brightened. Instead of taking Rose back to the shop and help her set up a place to stay, he decided to take her home with him. Rose noticed he wasn't going to the location of the shop. She asked, "Where are you taking me, this isn't the way to the shop."
"I know, you'll see what I'm trying to do," he told her, while grinning.
"You're making me worry, tell me where you are taking me," she said.
They finally approached his house. Rose looked confused and anxious to know where they were at. She asked, " Whose house is this, it doesn't look familiar."
"Do you really want to know whose it is?" He asked her.
He grinned, she gulped, "Yes."
"It's my house!"
"Oh my god, I thought you were going to give me to some random person," she said with relief," Do you live alone?"
"Yea, but I have an extra room, if you want to stay there for the time being." He said.
"I don't mind, I'd love to stay."
Once they settled into the house, Rose went into the room she's staying in and fell asleep. Ian went into his room and read a book.
A couple of days passed by, and Rose was out of her wheelchair. She woke up and saw that there were a few presents and balloons on the ground. "Happy birthday," Ian said quietly.
Rose laughed, gave him a hug, and said, "Thank you so much."
She noticed that there was a giant present of the corner of her room. She went up to it and asked, "What's in here?"
"Open it and you'll see."
Before she opened the present, she got a text from Phoebe with the words, "Happy birthday!"
She texted Phobe back and pushed the present to the middle of the room. Ian told her to carefully push it. She was excited. She opened it and saw a husky puppy on a bed. She started to cry and gave Ian a hug. Later on, he took her to a restaurant for a birthday dinner. Phoebe came by with a present. The rest of the day, they went to random places to have fun.
A couple of days later, Rose was told to go back to the hospital for a checkup. Ms. Silva told Rose that she had to stay for the time being, since there is a major risk of her having another heart attack that could be worse than the last. She agreed to stay and told Ian to take care of the dog, Snow. The next day Ian went to go check up on Rose to see how she's doing. He went in her room and she wasn't there. He immediately asked a nurse if they know where she went, and they told him she left to a nearby cemetery a couple hours ago. It was Sunday and every Sunday she goes to the cemetery to tell her mom what she did during the week. Rose came back and saw Ian running towards her. He hugged her, "Don't scare me like that ever again."
"I'm sorry, I didn't think you were going to come by until Tuesday." She apologized.
They went back to her room, Rose saw Snow sleeping on the chair beside the bed. She went up to her and kissed her on the top of her head. Rose picked Snow up, and sat on the chair. They talked until it was time for him to go. Ian left Snow behind so Rose didn't have to feel alone for the next couple of days.
Tuesday came by and Ian came back to the hospital. He had a leash for Snow and an extra sweater for Rose. She asked, "What are you doing?"
"I want to meet your mother."
"Oh ok, I guess I could go again."
They went to the cemetery and Rose introduced Ian to the headstone of her mother. An hour passed and Rose had to take Snow for a little walk. Ian stayed telling Rose's mom about how he feels about being with Rose. He said, "Tomorrow I'm going to confess to her about how I feel, then hopefully we can stay together forever."
The next day, Ian went to a flower shop to buy some roses. He later went to the hospital to tell Rose how he feels. He went to the door of her room and saw that she was sleeping. An hour passed, something didn't seem right. He yelled out for help. The doctor rushed in with a few nurses. Another hour passed, Ms. Silva walked towards him, and told him the news. Ian nodded and walked out. He just stood outside and started to cry. He looked at the roses and said quietly to himself, "I'll always love you."
