A World Divided

Chapter 1: The Beginning

The wind pushed my hair to my face as I ran. I felt the cold through my spine. I have never felt so free... The smell of the old fallen leaves, and the damp ground was so calming. The colors of the forest made me feel safe and sure, as most of them were my favorite. Nature was so beautiful and breathtaking. I wish I could stay there forever... As I reached the border to the unknown, feeling adventurous and scared, the guard said"You know you can't cross the border."Oh come on!!! I was so close! Can't you just let me slide past you once!". "Unfortunately, no. You know the rules... If you pass-... "You have permission to ban me... I know, I know...", I said with a sigh. I walked back to the enclave feeling nervous and not knowing what to expect. As soon as I walked in I saw my angry dad dashing towards me. "Where were you!?" He said as he tried to grab me by the hand, but I dodged him. " I was in the forest, didn't you see the note I left you!" I said. "Yes,but you didn't tell me!" He rushed me back to our little house and slammed the door. "What if the powerless saw you".  

     I froze, while I was out there I didn't think about the powerless. You see, we live in a world where less than 5% of the population has powers. The powerless live alone in the forest, while the others(me) live in enclaves. Even though we have powers, we still fear the powerless. For fear, because they hold a device. A device that has the power to take our powers. Our powers and our life source are connected. So if our powers get taken away so does our life.... Many of my kind have perished to this device. My mom... was one to succumb to this fate... I guess I was so scared that my father read my face. "You... You know what it's fine, they don't go out this far anyway".  I just walked away, I mumbled "You sure about that". I opened the door to my room and closed it quickly as if someone was following me. I grabbed my knives and sharpened them. To the point where the blade shined like a diamond. I was a huntress in training. And was prepared to do what I needed to learn. So we had to wake up early for classes, so I set my watch for 4:30; 10 minutes to shower, 10 to eat and 10 extra to relax. Even if I ate fast, it takes 5 minutes to get to class. So I would use my extra 5 to go there. I get to class at exactly 5:00, I have never been late and I intend to keep it that way.
