Prolouge

I met him at a book fair in December. It was pretty cold that day. But his smoldering eyes on my face made me feel a little warm. He had been making eyes at me as soon as I passed the "Joy Publishers" stall. As usual, I was looking extremely ordinary in my brown cardigan and blue jeans. My hair was left loose on my shoulder. I'm gonna be totally honest with you. I am not a looker. I'm quite chubby, brownish complexioned with mediocre features. But I'm extremely proud of my smile. It's my best feature on my not-so-pretty face. If you ask my friends, they'll tell you that I look very cute. Well, that's a polite compliment for a chubby, non-pretty girl and I don't feel sorry for that. I accept it with humbleness. I was just wondering why he can't see that. Why he can't see that I'm not the type of girl whom one would turn head to look again? Was I amusing him? Probably so. I didn't bother myself with the thought of his gorgeous frame anymore. I entered the "Woodpecker" stall and was walking along the shelves. I noticed "You were my crush..." by Durjoy Dutta. Oh, what a douchy book that was! I wasted a good amount of my pocket money to buy that. I don't understand why the authors would give cool titles for crappy books. It's just unsettling. Oh... "She swiped right into my heart" by Sudeep Nagarkar! That was a mighty fine book. See? That was a magnificent book with an appropriate title. Dear authors, your readers aren't so dumb that they will love every crappy story you write. Hmm... "Revolution 2020" by Chetan Bhagat, well he's a horse of long race. "Everybody has a story" By Savi Sharma, I haven't read it yet but I'm quite sure that Indian women writers are far better than male writers. Take Twinkle Khanna for example! Ooo... "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E L James, that book makes me go nuts! Wow...John Green! I love him! I picked out "Will Grayson, Will Grayson" and opened the first page. From the corner of my left eye, I saw a portion of red and black pullover and skin tight black jeans. My eyes automatically started a tour of his lower portion. God, he has thighs! I looked at his feet. Let me tell you, I get weirdly turned on if I see the bare feet of a man. Well...it doesn't happen for every guy, only them who have long fingered, sculptured feet. He was wearing kito shoes. I could catch a glace of his feet through the uncovered portions. My god, his feet! They were like just...perfect. I almost chocked. Then I heard a voice and I must say that was some manly voice. He asked-"You like him?" I looked up at him. Okay guys, he wasn't like "Malibu Ken" or "James Dean" good-looking. But he had a tough, manly face. His eyes were sharp and brown. He had upturned nose and there was a cut- mark on his right cheek. He was looking at me intently. I'm not really sure but I think he was looking at my lips. I practically whispered-"Yeah...I think he's extraordinary." He smirked. His full lips lifted a little.

"Can I tell you something?"

"Yes."

"I think your voice is beautiful. It would sound more beautiful if you speak up." Oh! What a polite way to make a girl uncomfortable! I cleared my throat and said-"I'm sorry. I just..."

"No, I get it. You don't get comfortable right away with a complete stranger." Well, he was right. He was a beautiful stranger.

"Can I give you an advice?"

"Sure."

"Don't buy this book." He pointed to "You were my crush..." I mentally smiled.

"Already did. Five months ago. Worst 170 rupees I've spent ever." That remark made him give an all-teeth smile. Oh, that was hell of a smile! Although I didn't understand why he smiled. Was it because I made a poor choice or was that a dorky move of his? I also joined him in smiling without any reason. His face suddenly softened. He said-"Well...maybe I'm going too far but you have a gorgeous smile." Oh, I know baby! But no one ever complimented my smile. That made me quite happy. Okay, Mr. Gorgeous Stranger, maybe I like you! I shyly smiled and looked down at my feet.
