Struggles of a World We Live In
By: Oliver Knull
For the people who struggle
Day by day
In this world because they feel like no one will understand
Or because no one will believe them
Or people will hate them
Or people will abandon them in a sea of darkness to rot and disintegrate
For the people who stay strong
Even after something has happened to them
Something that has changed their view on the world
A thing so terrible
A thing so vile and terrifying
That they can no longer live as the innocent person they once were
For the people that are silent
Who stay isolated in bed
Who feel like they don’t know if they’ll make it
Who drift in space without a tether to reality
Who don’t remember what it’s like to be comfortable in their own skin.
For the people who mask their emotions
Just to please other people
To make their family and friends happy
So people don’t worry about you
So you now decide to lose your real self
Who you were born to be
To a world that people have taught you, won’t accept you
For the people who lost themselves
Years or maybe just months ago
To an unappreciative world
To a world that has told you all your life, that no one will be there to help
That all we need to do is be happy
For the people who have been told
That you’re too young to be depressed
That what you’re saying is all a lie
That you’re just asking for attention
They tell you this for many reasons, but I only know a few
For the people who have been picked on
Pushed around
Hurt
Abused
Just to come home to a family you feel like you couldn’t tell
For the people who have made it this far already
I’m proud of you
I respect you
I understand the pain you feel, as I have been through many of this myself
Thank you for staying strong
