Gabrielle was sprawled across her bed, her crystal blue eyes focused upon the ceiling. Downstairs, she could hear her parents uproarious shouts, and she was trying to drain them out by picturing herself sprawled across the sand of the beach.
It wasn't working - Gabrielle didn't hear the lapping waves, she heard the screaming parents. Gabrielle was beginning to grow accustomed to the shouts, but she hated it. Every day, screaming. Outside, the sky was a black hole, starless from light pollution. Gabrielle used to like looking at the stars when she was around 7, but now 13, they seemed to be impossible to find.
Out of boredom, Gabrielle sat up and grabbed her laptop, which was precariously perched on the small table beside her bed. She opened up her laptop and logged in before going into a video. The video displayed a small cat going through numerous mini mazes.
Gabrielle smiled softly at the video, but it didn't seem to help her. About 1 minute in, Gabrielle grew bored of the video and logged out of her laptop. She sighed, falling back onto the dark grey sheets of her bed. She kicked off her matching slippers and closed her eyes, allowing the consuming darkness to drown out the uproarious voices of her arguing parents.
