Moominmama grunted, panting after a hard day's work. She was pretty proud of herself, getting another day of labor done. The dishes were washed, the clothes were dry and folded, the dinner was made and everyone was fed, even Snufkin, Sniff, Snorkmaiden and the Snork who came over to visit. She got baths done for Little My and Moomin, the house was cleaned, the windows were shined, floors were scrubbed and swept, and much more. However, her back was hurting her like crazy. She got upstairs and into bed, Moominpapa looking over from his memoirs he was revising in bed.
"You alright, Moominama?" he wondered, seeing she was clearly in great discomfort.
"I'm fine," she offered a smile. "Just tired is all, papa."
"Hm... you've been 'tired' for quite some time now," he told her.
"I'm just glad to get some rest." With that, she got under the covers and closed her eyes. "Goodnight, papa..."
"... night mama..." he whispered a bit. He looked down at his papers and put them on his nightstand, blowing out the light. He settled in himself, thinking. Tomorrow was mother's day and he wanted to do something special. He WAS thinking of helping her in the garden, but she would still be working and- ... working...! That's it! She just needs a break! He smiled and closed his eyes, hoping to be the first to wake up tomorrow. This was going to be Moominmama's best mother's day ever.
"Snufkin...!" Moomin ran to the mumrik, who was on the bridge. Snufkin looked over and waved.
"Hello, Moo-aaah!!" Moomin grabbed Snufkin's arm and dragged him to the porch of Moominhouse.
"Snufkin! We could really use your help today! There isn't much time!"
"Goodness, what has gotten you in such a hurry?" he asked, adjusting his hat.
"Today is Mother's Day and papa had the most excellent plan!!" Moomin started. "That we do all of the cooking and cleaning for her...! I know you're excellent at cooking! A-and I know you don't cook for anyone else, but could you do this one exception? Just for one day? Please?" Snufkin was taken aback by all of this information thrown at him. Mother's day? Cleaning? Cooking? Moominmama? Just one day? He looked at Moomin, trying to put it all together in his head.
"... so you want me to cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner, is that right?" he tipped his head.
"Yes! Oh please Snufkin! Moominmama is always so sore and hardworking!" Snufkin looked down, thinking. Well... that time they were on the trip, she was there for him and made sure he was well. Plus he did kind of have fun when they were getting the special cherries, plus that dinner was wonderful. He could at least pay her back. Besides, he respected her greatly, like his own mother.
"... alright," he nodded. "I'll cook for you."
"Oh thank you, Snufkin! That's so wonderful!!" Moomin grabbed his hands and bounced up and down. Snufkin went inside, seeing the house was in a bustle. Sniff was scrubbing the floor, My was ordering people around while she dusted the pillows by jumping on them, Snorkmaiden was polishing the windows, and Snork was helping Moominpapa with the laundry.
"Goodness...!" Snufkin's eyes widened.
"Moomin, I'm hungry, when are we eating?" Sniff whined.
"Oh pipe down, Sniff!" My rolled her eyes. "You just ate a jar of jam five minutes ago...!"
"That's all I had this morning, Little My!" Sniff corrected her.
"Nu-uh! You're lying, Sniff, I know you are!"
"My, Sniff, please quiet down...!" Snorkmaiden ordered. "We have to not wake Moominmama!"
"But I'm tired, too!" Sniff grunted.
"Oh stop complaining and keep scrubbing!" My threw a pillow at him.
"Ow, hey! You're not the boss!"
"I am if you're going to be like this!"
"Hey, come now, children," Moominpapa looked at them. "You are doing this for Moominmama...!"
"It's okay, Papa, I have this!" Moomin beamed. "Snufkin, could you make some breakfast?"
"Well I can see what's in the kitchen," Snufkin nodded. He went into the kitchen and looked around on the shelves. He figured he could do something easy so everyone could eat quicker. He took two loaves of bread, some berries, butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon and set up a large frying pan. It took him back a bit to when he took care of the little children he... 'adopted.'
